5. President ?
Abe 4u ,   Haifa israel   (06.08.14)
Delete the post of 'Preident of Israel ' altogether. Just a lot of taxpayers money that we cannot afford. Plus we have the likes of Katsav, Olmert, Weitzman, Sharon etc. The so called President is a toothless, gelded person, so lets just not have one. Let the money that goes to look after this person the President be used to improve education, pensions, social welfare etc., much better than one old fogey gentleman scratching his scrothum and contemplate what to steal next.
6. So it seems the only candidate not tainted ...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (06.08.14)

7. "the highly respected position of President"
Sagi   (06.08.14)
No. Should read, the highly disrespected position of President. Nobody wants the continuation of this useless position, suitable for freeloaders only, worthless, useless and costly.
8. Please read this carefully
Raptor   (06.08.14)
He or she who is elected will in the initial statement or address state thus,"I promise to be a President of the people". This of course is not only farcical, it is a grave injustice to the people. One elected by skullduggery and intrigue on partisan tickets cannot possibly be "of the people". If Shakespeare were alive today, in Israeli politics and administration he would find an abundance of material to write a few more farces, comedies and tragedies that would outshine by far those he wrote long ago.
9. Can someone enlighten us all
(06.08.14)
the role of the president in Israel. Is there another country in the world that has both a Prime Minister and a President?
10. Is this what Israel needs a president for?
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.08.14)
Peres is the best reason to prove that a president is a useless position. To have the ritual impure pope pray along with him on behalf the Jewish country, is this what Israel needs a president for? Is this what we need to waste OUR taxpayer's on? Any Joe-Shmoe could do that?
11. cheer up, it could be much worse
CJK   (06.08.14)

15. electing a new President!

17. Look for the "Russian Mafia"
AVouskila ,   South America   (06.08.14)
Dirt does not end when it comes to political 'conspiratorial' cases. It will be a bad omen for the political life in Israel if Silvan Shalom is not choosen to be the next President of the Jewish State of Israel. The Alternate has to be a very imperial principle when it comes to elect/choose a person to high government post, otherwise the more than half of Israel citizenry of non-European points of immigration to Israel will be disgrandle , and will consider any future election undemocratic, strictly ethnocentric favoring those groups mentioned above. Let me tell an anecdote about the 'Russian Mafia' : In USA there are number of multi billionaires of Moroccan Jewish origins. One particular family, the Lassry have two, but Marc is a well known Democrat familiar with not only the Clinton, but to Obama (not a great deal). Obama decided to push for the election of Marc Lassry (a Marakshi) to become the next American Ambassodor to the great Republican State of France. Unfortunately the rumours mills start running at a high energy in the conspiratorial mode. Now, Marc is allegedly having some connection to the 'Russian Mafia', and he laundered money for that great allergic to justice-organisation. What do you know: A Moroccan Jew going as American Ambassador to France where hundred of thousands Moroccan Jews and non-Jews live. So, Silan Shalom has as much chance as Marc Lassry to get what is due to them......Justice, justic you shall seek.
