When you consider the absolutely abominable state of mental health resources in Israel we're actually quite lucky that these cases only happen every so often. Resources range from scarce to non-existent, and in the rare case that they can be found waiting lists are enormous, it's often an uphill battle to get the Kupat Holim to pay for them resulting in them being completely inaccessible to many patients, and in the case of many programs (halfway programs for example) only people who are recognized by Bituah Leumi as being incapable of working are eligible at all, alienating the vast majority of people from utilizing them. Most psychiatric patients in Israel are simply thrown out into the wild and told to fend for themselves. And when they do receive treatment, people fail to understand that these are not hernias - a psychiatric patient cannot simply "deal with it" for a few months while he sits on the waiting list. It just doesn't work that way when it comes to mental health. All in all, it was only a matter of time before someone thrown out by the system snapped - and the funny thing is, the Israeli government and general public STILL won't recognize the cause behind all of this, and will simply insist that he was "psycho" and end the story there. Also, for those calling for the death penalty - despicable. This man is clearly mentally ill and in need of psychiatric treatment.
