1. These days articles like this, cannot be excused by sheer
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.20.14)
stupidity, lack of education or mental disorder on the part of author. This type of writing is an active act of treason, aimed at undermining the morale of citizens: citizens not intelligent enough (and what can you do, there are many like that) to see through this crude propaganda. Take that "doctor" to the gallows, I say! At least: damn his eyes & mouth.
2. Even Abbas has his limits
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (06.20.14)
Abbas did it for PA and West Bank National Self Interest not for a bit of 'statesmanlike' PA First he was completely BETRAYED by Hamas Directed Kidnapping on West Bank PalestinianTerritory He was getting fed up of Hamas more and more aggressive demands for more and more cash putting the West Bank Economy at risk He was getting fed up of being undermined on AGREED policy He was getting fed up of losing sleep at night not knowing that at any time this Hamas loose Canon could trigger more violence in the West Bank But the final straw is the growing belief that this 'Unity' Marriage looks like it may have been out and out treachery to simply use this Marriage try to take over - Hezbollah style the West Bank by stealth And now the open latest pronouncements of the 'new' Hamas with super ambitions and no doubt taking a leaf out of the ISIS School of Terrorism to create the Islamic State of Greater Palestine ISGP from Jordan to the Sinai was going beyond insanity Even Abbas has his limits
3. A traitor when his back's to the wall.

4. talk is cheap
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (06.20.14)
Sure Ab ass condemned the kidnapping; he wants to look good, but he certainly does nothing to stop Arab anti Israeli and anti Jewish hatred. He has done nothing except encourage the growth of Islamic extremists. He has not encouraged any concessions from his side to make peace. Basically he follows the Islamic methodology of lying to achieve one goals (see the Koran) and to which the West and many in Israel are ignorant of. Talk is Cheap; it is ACTION that will show the truth beneath the words. If he pushes the right 'buttons' he can find the three boys. Let him show his sincerity by DOING and not by SPEAKING.
5. In front Bibi and his gov prove they are true fascists.

6. Dr. Ido Zelkovitz:
Israeli 2   (06.20.14)
One more addition to pathetic leftist mentality. How many of them are there? 1. Abbas is a murderer and a liar 2. Abbas is no hero 3. Abbas, his government and Hamas are all one and the same and yet you believe the opposite. You, your "expertise" and publishers do not impress me a bit. Publishers are not less political than everyone else. Everyone can be published. You just expose yourself as being another leftist DODO. Change your ways Dr. and become a real expert.
7. He's lied for so many years, why trust him now?
David ,   Hartford USA   (06.20.14)
Abbas is a congenital liar. He tells western useful idiots what they want to hear while applauding his jihadist terrorists. I'm sure we'll find MEMRI producing a translation of Abbas congratulating the kidnappers. But then, what else can we expect from a card-carrying closet jihadist? Since the kidnappers were only following PA/Hamas directives, and since Abbas so cleverly signed on to all those UN conventions, I believe the PA is subject to arrest under those same Geneva conventions. Let's get going and arrest these guys!
8. you're kidding
Daniel Freedman ,   Nahariya, Israel   (06.20.14)
Once again YNet proves its Staff and Reporters are Out of Touch and irrelevant to main stream Israel, seeking only to serve as a out of step left wing extremest minority rag of twisted truths and warped reality of the delusional ever shrinking Leftest self hating Jewish screwballs.
9. a leader....
Susan ,   USA   (06.20.14)
...sacrifices his own political agenda for the good of the nation, etc. In today's world we hardly ever see this because rigid ideologies rule ones heart. I will not say Abu Mazen lacks this feeling but if he meant those words why would had formed a unity gov with Hamas....one of the most stunning incubators of terror? My guess it was a show. Kerry called him and pleaded he act like a leader and for that he would get a nice present down the road of (more) harsh words toward Israel by US. As Jews we too easily get swept away by kind words forgetting hardly ever history backed them up with action. Shabbat Shslom y'all
10. detoxification
Eyal ,   Netanya   (06.20.14)
why do we get so excited about him saying that? even if he meant it, which he didn't he had to say it, what difference does that make at this point in our history? we are like addicts keep wanting more and more of "coexistence & peace" drug. we need to detoxify.
11. Netanyahu's lack of guts
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.20.14)
Abu Mazen had the guts to stand up against "right wing" Palestinians, while Netanyahu is scared stiff of the right wing elements in his own party and the extremists of Bennett's gang
12. Abbas set the whole thing up
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.20.14)
He's behind the kidnapping of these three Israeli youths. And he's not interested in playing to a "palestinian," or even an Arab, audience. The Arab states have kicked him to the curb -- financially and they're even breaking away politically; their support has been verbal, but otherwise pretty much meaningless -- no, Abbas is playing to a Western audience. Nothing like authorizing a kidnapping, and then make an impassioned plea for their return. The Americans and the Europeans will fall all over themselves rushing to praise him, thereby feeding his already overinflated ego. Abbas is no statesman. He's a terrorist. He is responsible for the murder of eleven Israeli athletes, and should be arrested. There is no statute of limitations on murder.
13. analysis faulty
Eric ,   Baltimore MD   (06.20.14)
imo Abbas is doing this because Israel is now doing something he is incapable of doing. Which is destroying the violent infrastructure capable of defeating the PA in the West Bank areas. What a gift he is getting ! And it's all worth it if we get the 3 boys back.
14. Actions Speak Louder than Words
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (06.20.14)
Sure Ab ass is a statesman; he talks but what he says and what he does can be two opposite things. Do not be fooled for one minute into believing that he will give any help to Israel unless there is a high price to be paid; and do not think that he is anything more than a terrorist in civilian clothing. We Israelis are in it alone.
15. BS and you believe it too?
ezra ,   jerusalem   (06.20.14)
Oh come on. Ab ass is only covering his Ab and ass. He knows that kidnapping is good for Arabs since they get their terrorists back. If he is a man of peace, let him forbid extremist clerics and Islamic schools in the West Bank from spewing their racist poison. Let him open the West Band that it be possible for a Jewish Israeli to walk down the streets of Ramallah or Jenin with a kippa and not fear instant death or worse. BS to the author for writing such BS. He certainly does NOT understand the Arab Muslim mind. They are two faced and will say anything to get their goals. REad the Koran and take a lesson!!
16. Whoever wrote this piece has no understanding of the PA
Larry ,   Or Yehuda   (06.20.14)
not politics, nor Muslims and I question his degree. First Abbas is not a representative of the PA, they said so themselves. He has no mandate. It ran out in 2009. Second, he can condemn in words as much as he wants, Muslim law allows him to say that for the greater good, but the only true condemnation is when a Muslim is killed.
17. Abbas condemning abduction proves he's a liar - a big one!
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.20.14)
Abbas is the head of the Fatah terrorist organization and the abductions were done by at least 2 of his released terrorists. As long as he hasn't taken a polygraph test, he's not to be trusted by anyone besides Livni, Kerry, Obama and the Left media.
18. Zelkovitz
(06.20.14)
At the bottom of this piece we read that Zelkovitz is a Fatah admirer, so we understand why Zelkovitz needs to lie to support his opinions, and puts words in Abbas mouth to imply that he said what he did not. Abbas did not renounce the kidnapping nor say it was a disgraceful crime. He simply said that this specific kidnapping (that is fine according to PLO Charter Article 9) was not serving PLO interests. At the same time, Zelkovitz is hiding a crucial fact. In 6 months there will be elections, and Hamas would have won a sweeping victory, Suddenly, the IDF under Netanyahu's order is making sure that not one Hamas activist will be able to campaign or vote. The IDF will seize Hamas funds. The "free and fair" elections will be a sweeping Fatah victory thanks to Netanyahu and the IDF, Netanyahu will use Abbas "popularity" to impose a Palestinian state on Israel, and eventually Abbas will flee Palestine, living Israelis to deal with a Jihadist Palestine established thanks to the IDF.
19. Isn't this proof enough what sort of "statesman"
A ,   Belgium   (06.20.14)
the terrorist Abbas is? "when I go out and say that the government is my government and it recognizes 'Israel' and so on, fine - these words are meant to trick the Americans." But the world keeps believing his lies, maybe he'll get a Nobel Prize too, as did his undeserving colleagues Arafat, Oblabla and Peres
20. Chaim
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.20.14)
Do you believe that Netanyahu speaks the truth ? Not an easy question for you, and your ilk, to answer, I imagine
21. WAFA
Eric Mandel ,   NY NY   (06.20.14)
Take a look at the official WAFA PA news outlet. Their coverage was only about Israeli transgressions, I could not find anything to the Pal. public about the statement.
22. In his own words Abbas condemned the kidnapping
Zev ,   Israel   (06.20.14)
because it harms the Palestinians. In my humble opinion that only proves that Abbas is not stupid.
23. Abbas is proven Holocaust Denier/mass murderer/liar.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.20.14)
What has been incontrovertibly proven about Abbas is that he is a Holocaust Denier, mass murderer and congenital liar. Israel should execute him along with all other "Palestinian" terrorists.
24. Abbas can't make peace, can't make war. He's treading water.
Sam ,   Canada   (06.20.14)
Abbas is a do nothing treading water until the next guy.
25. Yes, a leader & a terrorist !
Moshe ,   Usa   (06.20.14)
26. Abbas's Fatah group claims they kidnapped the boys
Mordechai   (06.22.14)
Abbas's own Fatah movement claims they committed the kidnapping. He's not condemning it in Arabic. He's supporting it. The PLO has done this before, condemn terrorism they commit in English
27. Dr., you forgot to say what a mench Abbas is and maybe Hamas
m   (06.22.14)
Sorry I couldn't read the article, too many words, meaningless like all the academics.
