Pick a plan to thwart a kidnapping Pick any plan...and the terrorists themselves will thwart the plan itself! If you give away this app to anyone,10,000,00 Jihadis will gladly sign up and, when they plan to kidnap again, they will all gleefully send simulateous false notifications of a kidnapping, thus tying up police and others. You'll have to "vet" the people who get these apps.

Actually, it would be a lot smarter to have RFID chipping done. After all, don't people deserve at least as much as cats and dogs? Phones are easily destroyed or masked, even after initial position determination, direction of travel can be changed. Especially when the terrorists know about the app...as they do, now.
3. App needs work
Avi Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.20.14)
A+ for effort. D- for implementation. Here's a short list of what needs to be improved: When someone is kidnapped, in all likelihood, if they're lucky they may have a few seconds to activate an app. They will not be able to take the phone out of their pocket, look for the app, launch it, then press 'Slide to Activate SOS'. Similar apps have a much triggers that can be activated while the smartphone is still in the pocket. For example, three quick presses on the volume up button. Or, through use of NFC tags (look it up). NFC rings are now available where if the user simply holds the ring close to the phone for x amount of seconds, the app can be triggered. The other problem I found with the app was the inability to test it. I'm still not sure if sliding the red button over will cause a false alarm. Also the app will not work without GPS. The problem is that most smartphone batteries will last only 3-4 hours with the GPS enabled. The app really needs to use WiFi as the default and GPS only in cases where the phone is out of range from a hotspot.
