To know that if the only consequence of firing missiles at Israel is that empty buildings will be bombed, there is no deterrent
2. How many countries ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.20.14)
... would tolerate fifteen missiles being fired at them by a hostile terrorist group? It is time for Israel to assert itself as a sovereign state, and exercise the discretion that all sovereign states would exercise. Pound Gaza. A little bloodletting is very much in order. They fired 15 missiles; we should fire 15 missiles. Not an excessive use of force -- measure for measure. In fact, that is what Israel should do all the time. Missile for missile. Surely not even the willfully blind "human rights activists" can object -- we're just responding with one of our missiles for each of their missiles. They target our civilians; so we'll target theirs. Perfectly fair and reasonable.

to shoot down a bottle rocket from Gaza? Seems to me Israel is the one paying dearly, hit or no hit.

Bombing empty buildings ain't working.
5. DOES ANYONE THERE REMEMBER?
les ,   canada   (06.20.14)
NINETEEN SIXTY SEVEN? these savages are threatening "intifada", "raining down of rockets", more kidnaping of israelis, and much more. how about a REAL pre-emptive strike on gaza, by eliminating all known hamas infrastructure and personnel before they can strike. what is bb waiting for?

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.20.14)
I invite you to come stand under one of those "bottle rockets" as it lands. Israel does not put a price on its affirmative duty to protect Israeli civilians. It is not our fault -- nor is it our problem -- that Hamas feels differently. They hold Gaza's civilian population in such low regard that they cache their weapons in mosques, schools and hospitals, thereby turning those mosques, schools and hospitals into legitimate military targets. Nor is it Israel's fault if Hamas chooses to launch its missiles and mortars at Israel from civilian areas. One of these days, we are going to retaliate in the exact manner that every other country in the world would -- civilian casualties in Gaza? Not our problem. Take it up with Hamas. Finally, oh ignorant one -- the law looks to intent, not efficacy. Meaning, whether Hamas' missiles reach their target or not is entirely irrelevant. The war crime occurred the instant Hamas fired a missile at an Israeli civilian population center. Israel has an affirmative duty to protect and defend its citizens. An Israeli retaliatory strike is thus legally justified. Hamas' actions are not.

when you describe the rockets fired into israel as a "bottle rocket" one immediatly has thoughts of being a kid firing a rocket on guy fawkes or shooting a litre soda bottle in the air by mixing a sugar sweet with it ...you are drastically mistaken and uninformed...these rockets fired into israel can Kill and Injure many people...and have done . the firing of rockets at civilian populations is a war crime... get your facts straight before trying to explain to others
8. the qassam game is over
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.20.14)
iron dome has made the qassam obsolete. and hamas knows it. that's why they have been making threats, but have mostly kept the truce with israel. but it would be a mistake to divert attention, and troops, to attack gaza. the boys are not there, and gaza is neither the head, nor even the tail, of the snake.
9. Look at what Bonkers Bananahead Bardawi pronounces
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (06.20.14)
'We are capable of igniting a third Intifada which is an irrevocable right that will go off when more pressure is exerted on the Palestinian people," Hamas will not sit on its hands as Israel "continues with its crimes in the West Bank," So now Bananahead Bardawi has taken upon himself to speak for Abbas, the PA and West Bank Palestinians and he ASSUMES that if he says...Jump for Intifada...we are all going to say YES YES PLEASE HOW HIGH TO JUMP and HOW MUCH MORE MONEY DO YOU WANT and how many of West Bank Palestinians do you want to be sacrificed whilst YOU and YOUR KIND hide in the Rotting Sewers and bunkers in the Gaza that Hamas have destroyed

Sammy ,   Newcastle   (06.20.14)
Bankrupt and Corrupt...they turn to even more violence and wild ambition Its as if they don't care whatsoever about THE PEOPLE...just to keep their choking grip on control and power by creating more attacks so Gazans suffer retaliation and just so long as the Hamas Elite and Fancy Boy Mashaal are kept in the lifestyle they are accustomed And now they have gone completely coo coo Talking OPENLY about the Plan to create the 'Islamic State of Greater Palestine ISGP' from Jordan to the Sinai Not sure that Jordan, the PA, Israel or Egypt think that is such a good idea...

by " bottle rockets' i hope you are trying to illustrate the fact, that they cost next to nothing compared to the iron dome missiles, and as in Israel is losing a lot of money fighting them! on the other hand it seems like others took you to mean " bottle rockets" as in harmless, but i'm going to use faith and assume you meant the first scenario! In that case, Israeli lives comes first! And if it were up to me, i'd deduct the price of the missiles and send the bill to the UN, or the palestinians and even take it from their taxes. Regardless, lives first, money second!

"perpetrated by Islamic Jihad, and not by Hamas." ? are you so sure? all cut from the same rotten bolt of cloth. Sorry, there is no difference between the two heaed snake entities. Destroying one will destroy the other...2 sides of the same coin. Both want all Jewz gone from the lands they are trying to steal under the guise of a invented people and a make believe society conjured up by an evil, bent, HIV/AIDS racked pus brained lying twerp!

Caroline is clearly making a comparison of the the relative costs of the Hamas rockets vs. an Iron Dome one. A Qassam probably cost a few hundred shekels...a Grad...a few thousand. Realize the funding for these comes not from the people but from terrorist-aligned governments (like Iran)...not local taxpayers. According to one online source, each Iron Dome one costs ~345000 shekels. I believe they fire two missiles at each incoming...so double that.

arne ,   chicago usa   (06.20.14)
hitting targets that have a devastating effect, bomb i.e--main roads, electric power grids etc, etc---target top brass with drones---don't always wait for rockets to come in, keep a steady offensive going so they don't know when a strike will occur. If they can live with that on a steady basis then I have no other answer.
