1. Stats lie...professional poverty advocates lie all the time
Al   (06.25.14)
Dont believe the hype..Israel is doing very well. In fact the people are getting fat as they are eating too much. HPB and diabetes rates are off the chart. Watching Tv while eating Bamba is not poverty.
2. Where does all the Money go
Zechariah   (06.25.14)
How much would it cost th feed hungry people .Donations fro the Rich and wealthy in Israel and the Gallus ought cover the costs .In Dubai they built huge Towers and artificial islands huge greed and the Arabs Israeli and Palestinian suffer economically .I believe stringent auditing of donations is essential but know at least some gets through.
3. Large number of citizens
Nadya ,   California, USA   (06.25.14)
The article says large number of Israeli citizens eat only every other day. Yet in this same newspaper edition it says Israel is joining Paris Rich Club. Something's wrong with this picture. Why aren't Israeli's taking care of their own?
4. How can I induce people to quit the Gola ?
Roland ,   london England   (06.25.14)
5. Be honest how high for 'olim
Yored X   (06.25.14)
I know I went hungry during the year I tried to be an 'oleh in an inhospitable country.
6. Haredim
Arpachshad ,   USA   (06.25.14)
Why are the Haredim poor?I thought they are Torah observer:Deut:15;4-5: Howbeit there shall be no needy among you--for HaShem will surely bless thee in the land which HaShem thy G-d giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it-- if only thou diligently hearken unto the voice of HaShem thy G-d, to observe to do all this commandment which I command thee this day.
7. A national disgrace
gp ,   Tel Aviv   (06.25.14)
and an abject failure on the part of a government which feeds itself more than it deserves and closes its eyes to what's happening on the ground. The minimum wage is too low and too widespread. Pension and "secured income" payments are only half what the poorest of the poor need to survive. What our surrounding enemies aren't doing to us, this government is.
8. Plenty of money for the settlers

Of the many obnoxious comments from this Al person, we take it he's comfortable enough, thank you. Welfare reports over 30% increase in people reporting to them for aid, including - wait for it - WORKING people (therefore not Haredi) earning up to 12,000 shekels a month. You cannot support a family on that, but employers - including very rich ones - continue to pay salaries that were in force 12 years ago. If the economy is so good, and companies are doing so well, how come they're so MEAN as to pay little more than minimum wage to 70% of their workers? With regard to obesity and poverty, this is a well known phenomenon. Palestinians - and Israeli Arabs are among the most obese people (45-48% obesity levels) on the planet yet are very poor, as are many southern Africans, South Americans and Pacific Islanders. These are people who fill up on cheap starches. Certainly in Israel, where a single damned turnip costs 3 shekels, YOU try, as a jobless, unmotivated, depressed person, to cope on 1,500 shekels a month. It certainly sounds like YOU don't have that problem, so who in hell are you to look down on the less fortunate? Instead of blabbing your superior little head off, without having any clue of what is happening out there, why not put your MONEY where your mouth is and go open a soup kitchen instead of begrudging the poor whatever little pleasure they get to enjoy.

12. Hunger in Israel?!
Alfredo ,   Raanana   (06.25.14)
I would like to know more about these people. Who are they, do they work, what education/training do they have. There are lots of available jobs in Israel i.e. maids get paid 50 shekel/hr, construction workers, agriculture and more. Foreign workers come here and find work. Many young people, usually religious, knock on our doors asking for "tsedaka" yet they are NOT working. That is certainly a big part of the problem.

Oh come on, stop your babbling will you please. Some parents cant afford to pay for school lunches; take a walk down the main street of Hatikva, watch people rummaging in garbage bins for scraps; talk a stroll down the Carmel market in TA, watch how many people are waiting for the end of the day when stall owners close their stalls & sell their left over fruit & vegetables for a minute amount of money. Watch how many of the poorest of poorest pick up fallen food from the ground at the Carmel market. Yes, there are people in Israel who go hungry, yes, yes, yes. It is true. The divide between rich & poor is huge here. Enough already with your babble.
14. Stop feeding "palestinian" hunger strikers who want to
A ,   Belgium   (06.25.14)
starve themselves anyway, give the food to the poor people who really deserve it, not these parasites.
15. To All Commentators
Harold ,   USA   (06.25.14)
Stop building settlements on Palestinian Lands and feed your own people inside the 1948 recognized borders. If this situation continues, European immigrants will return to their original countries. Zionist propaganda "ISRAEL IS THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY" is fake.
16. So Israel is now like the USA
Mark B. ,   Amsterdam / Holland   (06.25.14)
Billionaires, stock traders, tech entrepeneurs with unimaginable wealth keep prospering while main street keeps struggling and falling. It has been a long walk away from the Kibbutz system into rogue capitalism indeed. But hey, start-up nation, economic might and high-tech giant sounds great. Be proud Israel!
17.  Funny but it doesn't stop you from bragging ,...
split ,   US   (06.25.14)
Despite all those handouts from US and Germany despite tax deductible donations bilked from US taxpayer, compensations extorted from Germany and other nations by this so called Claims Conference Crooks, at least $100 billion - I don't feel sorry for those lazy black hatted baby machines but the old and sick shouldn't go hungry or being neglected,
18. #15 How many homeless, hungry, poor people are there in the
A ,   Belgium   (06.25.14)
country that you are a guest in, bumpkin? What percentage of Native Americans, whose country was stolen from them, live in poverty? What are YOU doing to help THEM? You have no right to say anything about Israel or the Middle East, cretin, until you clean up the mess in your own "home".
19. #18 - You have no idea what are you talking about ,...
split ,   US   (06.25.14)
They got compensated for 'stolen' land, they got free housing build by US government, get welfare checks, food stamps, free medical care and education. Nothing stands on their way to get educated and cut their dependency on Feds. Reservations are under their government, all the casinos and slot machines outside Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City are owned by Indian tribes, if there's any poverty talk to their elders ,... Google 'indian casinos' click on images and take a look ,...

Thats all very nice, how about reading up about the rape, the murder of fellow Indian under-aged girls by Indian youth who are drugged out of their minds, who are bored to death because they have no hope of improving their situation. How many young girls have run away from reservations? how many reservation girls have been found dead? Ever heard of the code, orange?? Look it up, you will go into shock. The law does not exist on a reservation. There are 2 sides to every story, the good & the bad, never forget this.
