1. He is right..
Dror ,   Haifa,Israel   (07.24.14)
Stating the obvious. Very big mistake to stay in Gaza.. Kill them from a distance, close up only when there is no other choice...
2. We MUST to comprromise
Pres. Poophead Peres   (07.24.14)
Ideally, we wait until several thousand of our young people (damn their eyes) are dead without gaining much, then we do a compromise with our Arab cousins and give them back anything we might have gained. This is the Oslo way, the way of peace, and I love it! Ha ha suckers, been treason-ing and treachery-ing all these years and Israelis don't even notice!
3. Gaza must be DEMILITARIZED
USA   (07.24.14)
Gaza is not a very big area. It MUST BE demilitarized. None of the following should be allowed in Gaza: rockets, missiles, landmines, guns, ammo, grenades, anti-tank weapons of any kind, etc etc. It must agree to full, unconditional and unannounced inspection by an international inspection team. Israel reserves the right to immediatel, and unannounced military action WITHOUT prior notice. HAMAS or other terror entities will be fully responsible for their civilian deaths if they hide weapons caches or operate their rockets/motars next to or in civilian areas. HAMAS and other terror leaders should be hauled into the Hague for CRIMES AGAINS HUMANITY FOR 1) Using human shields and hiding offensive weaponry within school, hospital and residential areas thus contributing DIRECTLY to Pali Arab deaths, 2) For targeting civilian population in a sovereign state, Israel and causing deaths to specifically targeted civilians.
4. Huh? War proved both deterrence and Hamas hudnas worthless
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (07.24.14)
Barnea seems to not have noticed that deterrence has not worked with Hamas, and is meaningless to bloodthirsty fanatics who don't care about life or property. Didn't work in 2009, 2012 or now. They are perfectly willing to lose thousands in order to kill a few dozen Jews and disrupt life in the Jewish State of Israel, whose right to existance with any borders they reject. Likewise, the conflicts of today, 2012 and 2009 demonstrate paper deals with Hamas, even backed by the liars of the US, EU and UN are equally worthless. Look at UNSC 1701, supported by sanctions barring Iranian and Syrian missiles from Lebanon after Israel left - 80,000 missiles shipped in, and no penanties to Iran and Syria for violating trafficking sanctions. So what are you talking about, Nahum???? Israel looking in a mirror saying to itself "we have the right to act in our defense"? While Europe encourages anti-Jewish riots? Facts on the ground are the only thing that is worth a damn - look at the Golan: daily trouble spot before June 1967, Syrians firing into Israel non-stop with impunity, no action by UN. After 1967 - Golan has been the quietest region in the Middle East. Israel needs to re-occupy the land bridge connecting Gaza with Egypt, the strip of land just northeast of Rafah - and ANNEX it, cutting off smuggling of arms and everything else into Gaza. Close the crossings from Israel. Nothing goes in or out but bare minimum humanitarian beans and rice except on condition of peaceful behavior by Gazans. And total demilitarization of Gaza to Israel's satisfaction, not to Obamas .satisfaction or Baroness Ashtons or Banky.
5. HAMAS
Harold Bagnall ,   United States   (07.24.14)
HAMAS STATED GOAL IS THE DESTRUCTION OF ISRAEL . FOR ISREAL TO IGNORE THIS STATED GOAL IS UNREAL. ISRAEL IS IN A POSITION TO DESTROY HAMAS, ONCE AND FOR ALL, IN THE GAZA. THEY ARE WELL WITHIN THEIR RIGHT TO DO SO. LET THEM DO THE JOB AND KILL ALL OF THEM AS THEY WOULD DO TO ISRAEL IF THE SITUATION WERE REVERSED !
6. Israel needs to defeat Hamas, Islamic Jihad
CJK   (07.24.14)
there can be no deterrence against committed jihadists who know they will continue to be armed, trained and otherwise helped by the terror state of iran. israel must ignore the hostile obama administration and its attempts to harm israel. despite all appearances to the contrary, israel is in a rather good position given the situations in syria, lebanon, iraq, egypt.
7. A very good idea but
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.24.14)
This seems to me a very good idea. It speaks to the reality of the situation. The problem however is that a withdrawal in two days will leave Israel still having considerable rocket-fire upon its civilian population. Perhaps then the idea makes more sense at a point after which Hamas has been totally deprived of its rocket-power. PS The question of continuing in my opinion is not one of world -opinion since Arab opinion is divided, and we will not get outright condemnation from a unanimous U.N. The question is the price in Israeli casualties.
8. Yes another unilateral withdrawal
Mordechai   (07.24.14)
It worked so great in Lebanon where Hamas has thousands of rockets, it worked so well in Gaza where we destroyed the homes of Jews so Hamas could get missile sites. How many soldiers have died so Barnea would not have an occupation to embarrass him among the gentiles. Lets try it again. Lets kill more soldiers for the lefts ideology. Lets endanger our children for the ideology of Peace Now.
9. #6 - HOW?
spyguy ,   Seattle USA   (07.24.14)
In the REAL WORLD, there is no way to "defeat" Hamas or whoever replaces Hamas in Gaza. Basically, Israel has reached the limits of its power. Israel has brutalized the Gazans to the point of numbness so the Gazans will continue to resist Israel because they have nothing left to lose.
10. In the Shoah it was Ten Thousand a day
Zechariah   (07.24.14)
11. 9
Yonatan Allon ,   adelaide/Israel   (07.24.14)
Yes they have -all members of Hamas. In the real world you are an idiot.
12. #9 you are so right
(07.24.14)
Except that you are wrong. We can do an Obama-style action like in Bahrain or Libya on them. There will be peace for centuries. If you are racist and say only Obama is allowed to do these things, we can take the peaceful route: a. close the borders with Gaza, all supplies, transport and communication are through Egypt. b. liberate Temple Mount from Arab occupation. c. enforce building laws on Arabs in Judea and Samaria d. slowly impose Israeli sovereignty on Judea and Samaria e. pay Arabs to move from Judea and Samaria to Europe and Seattle
13. # 9 that's such BS
John Prophet   (07.24.14)
If people like you prevailed during WWII we'd all be doing the goose step today. Continue to wring your hands while real men do what must be done.
14. #12 - More Israeli delusion
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (07.25.14)
If you do . . . (a) you will be committing genocide and will be punished.. (b) you will incite a massive war that you will lose. (c0 you will incite more war that you will lose. (d) You will have to give EVERY human west of the Jordan river Israelis citizenship for face sever punishment. (e) Israel does not have enough money and no other country on earth will accept millions of refugees anyway. This is just more delusion on the part of some Israelis than will cause Israel to cease to exist in the long term.
15. Israel could easily vanquish "Palestinians" forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.26.14)
There is only one reason hostile "Palestinian" communities exists in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Israel lunatically supports them. Israel need merely end the insane flow of Israeli food, materials, money, electricity, work permits, protection etc. to Fictional Palestine. It would soon collapse at our feet. That would be the time for mass "Palestinian" departure from our land.
16. #14. Spywimp. The Israeli Solution is inevitable.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.26.14)
Israel has constantly listened to threats like yours. Meanwhile Israel grows stronger and richer every year. "Palestine" grows ever more fictional. Even the Arab World is getting fed up with "Palestinian" poseurs. Many Arab states are quietly, and not so quietly, rooting for Israel against Hamas. The Israeli Solution is inevitable, as expressed by Caroline Glick and Moshe Feiglin. Both of whom have more brains in a single toe nail than you'll ever have.
