2. My Grandfather Always Spoke Of A Male Relative Who DiedOnboa
Ed ,   America   (09.03.14)
died onboard the Titanic. He was my Grandfather's cousin. My grandfather lived a long life, 1883 until 1967 and his entire life, to his dying day mentioned that we had a relative who died on the Titanic. I have never been able to find who it was, although a few names on teh official passenger manifest are familial names on my family tree. Someday, maybe, we will finally find out who it is/was.

Here in the UK the Titanic is still on the curriculum and we still note the 'ayin hara' of saying it was unsinkable. Technology is advancing but there are still many problems and we dare not be overly confident, or future generations will look back on us the way we look back on the Titanic.
4. did this study mentioned the main culprit?

Yes, he was. But John Jacob Astor was not Jewish; he was German. If memory serves, he ascribed to no particular religion -- he was a Freemason. Guggenheim was the wealthiest Jewish passenger on the Titanic.

That information on Jacob Astor is correct but you are completely mistaken by saying he wasn't Jewish but German. He was a Christian German indeed. As you have Jewish and Christian Americans or would you Sarah not call yourself an American? Taken that aside a very informative article of YNet.

I am confused. The "Kosher meat plate" depicted says in large letters Kosher (in Hebrew). Above it to the left, Is the English word MEAT. But the Hebrew letters (well, Yiddish letters actually) seem to spell "Milshik", meaning "dairy." Am I reading wrong, or can someone explain? Ken

Walter Lord's book, A Night to Remember (1955) is a fascinating non-fictional account of the sinking of the Titanic from survivor's accounts and Cunard's records. At the end of the book is a complete passenger list by class and point of embarkation, showing who survived and who dies as far as the records show. The Titanic store in Manchester England has an original poster advertising the upcoming voyage, if I remember correctly and . we used to go to this store every week for Shabbat shopping when my wife and I lived in the city of Salford next door to Manchester. I believe the Hyman family still owns it. Visit if you are in M/CR/
