1. Maybe after the Reoccupation
Mark ben Josef ,   USA   (08.18.14)
Chances of a permanent cease fire are between negligible and nil. Too many preconditions on both sides. So Israel reoccupies for at least a generation and maybe finds some Palestinians raised to believe that Israel does not want Gazans dead. From those some Gazans government that is not hostile might emerge. One or maybe two generations from now. Attitudes in Gaza and against all Gazans have been hardening for 47 years. Rome was not built in a day.
2. It's their money
(08.18.14)
It's their money so they can do whatever they want with it. It is admirable that they do not want to give it to Hamas, an organization that has ended the thousand years presence of Christians in Gaza and that proudly calls for genocide. It is sad that they want to give it to Abbas, a man who proudly says he wants to ethnically cleanse Jews from all of Israel. The question is what do they want to achieve? The reason Abbas was kicked out of Gaza by Gazans is corruption. He received endless funds which he used to enrich himself and his cronies. Instead of giving the money to the anti-Israel Arabs, why don't the Norwegians give it to the Kurds, Libyans, Syrians, Lebanese or Iraqis?
3. What about Israel?
msh ,   Haifa   (08.18.14)
Part of these funds must be transferred to Israel to compensate for the damage caused to Israeli civilians, property and infrastructures and for expences caused to IDF by the need to repell Hamas aggression.
4. There will be no aid.
Miron ,   USA   (08.18.14)
If anything Gaza will be sealed off tighter than before until such time when it no longer poses threat to Israeli civilians. Do not lie to people. Their lives are in danger.
5. No reconstruction without demilitarization: a truckload of
N.L.Katz ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (08.18.14)
building materials for a truckload of rockets and missiles.
6. Summed rather nicely
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.18.14)
"Gaza has been devastated by weeks of Israeli attacks aimed at ending rocket fire by Hamas aimed at civilian population." The missile fire must end. If Hamas remains in control in Gaza, the missile fire will not end. Therefore, Hamas must go and Gaza must be demilitarized. On this, there is no wiggle room. The safety and security of Israel's citizens is paramount. If they cannot be safe and secure -- then why should the people of Gaza get anything? Blockade stays, in any event.
7. Funds to Abbas
Ros ,   Tel Aviv   (08.18.14)
What is going to stop Hamas forcing Abbas to give them the money! Who is going to supervise the building of homes, schools, etc instead of tunnels??
8. No problem at all
Noam ,   Switzerland   (08.18.14)
Gaza reconstruction aid conditioned on on lifting of blockade. Lifting of blockade conditioned on demilitarisation. So no problem there at all, we just have to be consistent in our demands. Can we?
9. Norway
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (08.18.14)
Is Norway demanding that Israel does not defend itself ? Does it wish that Israel do nothing when rockets rain on its cities ?
10. Excellent news
Miche Norman ,   Hod Hasharon   (08.18.14)
I do not see why anybody is criticizing Norway here, Money is tight in Europe and they are getting fed up of the Arabs showing how little they care about the Palestinians, rebuilding Gaza and then Hammas starts another war. This puts pressure on the Palestinians for a long term cease fire - which they can only acheive by agreement - which means they have to accept the terms that we insist on - demilitarization. Abbas is also on the spot - because the PLO agreed at Oslo to open Gaza in exchange for demilitariation and if he does not agree to that now then any promises he makes regarding the West Bank will be seen to be empty words.
11. Norway giving to Gaza $60 B in funds?
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (08.18.14)
Obviously this amount is coming indirectly from terrorist backers through the banks of Norway (I'd check the banks of Norway for terrorist financial dealings). Oh, and don't worry, Norway - Gaza people not starving - tons and hundreds of food, medicine, etc. is being passed to them from Israel. Maybe Norway should look at the news more often.
12. Salaam, Abbas The Embezzler!
DvorahTheProphetess ,   SC, USA   (08.18.14)
Good call, Norway: line the Prime Embezzler's coffers with lavish gifts of gelt. Not one dinar will he spend on his "people."
13. eu blockading YS goods, screw gaza
bernard ross   (08.18.14)
14. Good - More money for the PLO to steal....
Andy ,   Washington, DC   (08.18.14)
Why not just raid Suha Arafats accounts? That could rebuild Gaza (and rennovate Ramat Hasharon).
15. Come on, Norway! Are you idiots?!
milwaukeebroad ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.18.14)
You want to send the money to the PA, which has no established authority over Gaza and you won't hold an international donors conference until a long-lasting ceasefire exists, something Hamas has vowed repeatedly to violate. The more educated countries like yours does stupid things, the closer the whole world comes to believing that there truly is no cure for stupid.
16. funds will be given to Abbas
mat ,   uk   (08.18.14)
Why not give funds direct to contractors to which ever project this will be better then giving money to PA to minimize corruption
17. What makes them think that.....
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (08.18.14)
Abbas is more honest than Hamas? They are all Mafia and criminals.
18. Giving PA money?
IDF ,   Israel   (08.18.14)
Really? Just buy Abbas a Ferrari. Of course put an RFID tracker on it for future use.
19. Don't Waste the money!
Bill ,   Skokie U.S.A.   (08.18.14)
