The UN peacekeepers are given the task of a soldier but they are not allowed to act like soldiers. The UN peacekeepers have been in charge of security in the Golan patrolling the demilitarised zone and then at the first sign of trouble because of the Syria war they ran out tail between their legs and some other country had to send men to replace them. Add to that the UN does and always has hated Israel

These Filipino soldiers are just there doing an impossible job with impossible rules of engagement. May G-d bring them home soon. I get all the hostility to the UN here, but you need to separate the people that the member nations send vs. the policies of the organization. Have some mercy and compassion for them and their families please.

No Filipinos attached to UN were held hostage by Syrian rebels, the 44 held hostages were Fijis, because they surrendered their firearms, the Filipinos refused to surrender their firearms resulting to standoff and later firefight at thte end the Filipinos escape
