Saddam Hussein did indeed have weapons of mass destruction -- these were trucked over the border into Syria, which gave Syria the dubious distinction of having more biological and chemical warfare stocks than any country in the world. We know all about Syria's stockpiles, and have perhaps accounted for five percent of it. Weaponized anthrax and weaponized bubonic plague are nothing compared to some of the critters in Syria's Pandora's box. Even weaponized smallpox is not that big a threat. But Syria has some botulin toxins that can kill off half of humanity. In the hands of crazies -- and there really is no other word -- those toxins can put an end to civilization in a hurry. The trick is to calculate at which point the crazies will feel they have gone far enough. Sadly, I've come to the conclusion that such point does not exist. It's up to civilized nations to stop them.
