It is time that Israel asserted its rights as a sovereign state. Judea and Samaria -- nonsovereign territories from which Jews had been ethnically cleansed in 1948 -- were reacquired by Israel in the course of fighting a defensive war against Jordan. The land is thus Israel's to settle, retain and annex. Upon annexation, the Arabs illegally squatting thereon have two options: they can accept repatriation to Jordan, country of their citizenship, or they can go to Gaza to build their magical, mystical "palestinian" state. What they cannot do is remain in Israel. Those that own land will be compensated in exactly the same manner that nearly one million Jews throughout the Arab world, and in Moslem countries, were "compensated" when they were unceremoniously expelled with little more than the clothes on their backs. Fair's fair.

With any luck the arrogant king of opportunism will be leading a small fringe party rather than the now joint largest. Right now he is trying to appeal to the leftist voter because he probably rightly thinks its not going to be long before we have an election and the left and haredi haters were his biggest supporters last time. All these fools who think this little country can go on forever dominating 5 million Arabs are not of this planet. A solution must be found and Lapid reflects what many sane Israelis feel. It is not in appropriating disputed land!!! By so doing, any sympathy Israel manages to get is instantly lost once again. This is a terrible and destructive policy. Netanyahu does this every time he wants to voice his disapproval of those who condemn him or his leadership: wah wah, I'm real mad, so I'm gonna go build another settlement and show you, wah wah. Well, he's on all time low in terms of public opinion right now and if somebody with some leadership skill, rationality and a reasonable middle of the road stance comes along and offers this country a different way - because up to now Netanyahu's format has done nothing but get backs up everywhere - then more power to his elbow!
