1. Leave them alone....
Richard E Sherwin ,   Herzliya   (09.10.14)
I agree with Yaron London's request we leave israeli arabs and their language alone, as much as we do any law abiding group. Also teach arabic in jewish schools and hebrew in moslem/ christian schools. If arabic's already the legal 2d language of israel, leave it so. Beyond that, also, leave them alone. They wont thank us for 'helping' them develop their culture. AND I dont think leaving them alone will result in London's conclusion... but then again... why should it? "the result will be a mutual building relationship, which (as the bill's initiators put it) is what creates social cohesion, builds a collective identity, strengthens mutual trust and preserves the values of democracy." They want a 'collective identity', it's up to them. 'mutual trust', ditto. and 'values of democracy'...that's up to us.
2. If there is such a bill - then please also take off Russian
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (09.10.14)
All this country needs - really - is Hebrew, Arabic and English. FYI, Mr. London, United States has its government forms in English and then translated into Spanish. Even voting forms. I'm against it, but the majority speaks for itself.
3. That step should've been taken tens of years ago! London's
(09.10.14)
view on the subject is only to be expected given his intellectual capacity & fondness of murderous, leftist regimes around the world. That man is a disgrace to the wide-screen and any other form of media distribution!
4. The stampeding herd of elephants in the room...
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.10.14)
The herd of stampeding elephants in the room is the fact that the vast majority of Israeli Arabs are profoundly hostile to Israel. Israel should adopt policies to encourage their departure.
5. As an Anglo I don't expect English to be official
Mordechai   (09.11.14)
As an anglo immigrant I'm not offended if they stop English being an official language. Israel's language is and should be Hebrew. I should learn it if I wish to live here. The same for Israeli Arabs who need to realize they don't live in an Arab state but a Jewish state. If they find that humiliating they have plenty of Arab states to live in. Not one of which has Hebrew as an official language.
6. London and Lieberman
(09.11.14)
Lieberman is even fairer. Lieberman doesn't want anyone to be inferior or let them be humiliated. Lieberman says that if someone feels humiliated and inferior because they feel forced to be part if Israeli culture, he will spare them the humiliation of having to pay taxes and following laws made by the Jew. Let them be part of a different country.
7. Does the "fairer" one speak Hebrew? Ma, kvar, beemet?
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.12.14)
8. Devisive Language
Robyn ,   Montreal   (09.11.14)
As someone who lives in a French speaking province(Quebec) of Canada, I would strongly advise Israel to have ONE official language(Hebrew). When the British conquered the French of Quebec, they decided to let the French keep their language and culture. To this day, it has led to discord and threats to destroy Canada, by Quebec separation. It was an irreparable mistake.
9. Palestinians, not Israeli Arabs
Moshe ,   Israel   (09.11.14)
Most Arabs who live in Israel identify themselves as such. The author ignores this fact, and the long-century murderous assaults of terrorists from this community on innocent Jewish civilians. The conflict is still far from ending, if at all, so why should Israel nurture its enemy's language ?
10. Yaron London is right.
nibor ,   israel   (09.11.14)
No. 5, street signs are in English, Arabic and Hebrew. As an English speaker it is also very difficult for me to read documents in Hebrew but most Arab Israelis read and speak better Hebrew than I do. So, I think we should stop being so full of anger, and live up to the image of tolerance we have enjoyed for a few thousand years. . . . and if I hear another person say something nasty about "Lefties" I think I will scream. You would think only one opinion is allowed in this country.
11. to #10 Nibor
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (09.13.14)
after I see you attacking Norwegians for suppressing the Saami language - only then will I consider the idea that we ethnic-Hebrews dont have the right to possess & completely control life in this, our indigenous place.
12. # 3 and you sir/madam are an idiot!
Stan ,   Israel   (09.13.14)
