1. Irreconcilable Differences
Mark ben Josef ,   USA   (10.27.14)
Palestinians want statehood and freedom and won't compromise on either. Netanyahu has opposed statehood and freedom for Palestinians his entire life. Israelis elected him knowing it. Americans may have focused on settlement building, but it symbolizes the opposition to Palestinian freedom and statehood and adds emphasis to every Israeli consideration, that Palestinians cannot have freedom or real statehood. And neither Abbas nor Netanyahu has mentioned to his own public that anything would ever be compromised, not borders, nor private property, not anything. Israel won't even acknowledge at the UNHRC that Palestinians have any human rights. The differences are irreconcilable.
2. Correct: No Hope for Israeli-Palestinian Peace
Andi Ziegelman ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.27.14)
The unidentified American interviewed for this article is correct, but he's not 100% correct. He loses points for his opinion that in the past, there was a better chance for peace. This opinion of his in incorrect. Ever since the first days of Oslo, Palestinian leadership, no matter who is prime minister, has been in favor of a Destroy-Israel policy, which is carried out within the Palestinian Authority and without it. From Oslo, Fatah and Hamas have had the same goal of destroying Israel, only Hamas is open about it, and Fatah is close-mouthed about it. For proof, examine Palesinian Authority media, schools and mosques re Israel, over the past 20 years, not to mention the constitutions of both Fatah and Hamas, to this day.
3. #1 They should get a divorce
(10.27.14)
But Netanyahu holds on to this perverse relationship because he doesn't want to split property.
4. No need to be an expert ...
Roland ,   london England   (10.27.14)
Unless there is a revoking of the Koran's anti inflamatory remarks concerning Jews and Infidels there never will be Peace.Sorry, Diplomats and Politicians will be out of a job when that time comes !
5. The peace process is not only dead...
frauss ,   Jerusalem   (10.27.14)
its carcass is putrefying and should be buried once and for all. The focus should no longer be on making peace. The focus should be on the fact that the Arabs cannot or will not make peace with us and then figure out where we can go from there. It's called accommodation and cooperating quietly to reach a (relatively) quiet coexistence.
6. the real issue
LR ,   Afula, Israel   (10.27.14)
The Palestinian Muslim Arab world refuses to accept the sovereign existence of anything non-Muslim/Arab in their midst. Period. Read their charter. Read their Koran. Listen to their apocalyptic theocrats. And stop preaching to Israel, you pathetic hypocrites.
7. No Evidence
David S   (10.27.14)
Actions speak louder than words. There is no evidence whatsoever to back up your first sentence except words from liars like Abbas and Erekat. There is evidence of the opposite however. When Gaza was given to the Palestinians without blockade and with economic installations intact they could have tried to build a functioning state if only to show their good intent. They chose terrorism and blockade. They chose tyranny under Hamas. They want Islamic Jiihad, only an idiot can't see it.
8. Why Netanyahu doesn't want to split property
Andi Ziegelman ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.27.14)
Netanyahu doesn't want to split property, because he knows that doing so will only bring the Palestinians closer to their national goal of destroying Israel. Kudos to Netanyahu. I suggest that you get to know the Palestinians better. To do so, you might read Tuvia Tennenbom's new book, Alone Among Jews. In it, he presents a multitude of interviews with Palestinians, from ordinary people to top leaders. The Palestinian consensus is Destroy Israel. So, we Israelis see that Netanyahu is smart.
9. Update your knowledge
Andi Ziegelman ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.27.14)
I suggest that you get to know Palestinians better, to learn what their end-game is regarding Israel. A way to progress toward gaining this knowledge is to read Tuvia Tennenbom's new book, Alone Among Jews. In it, you will read interviews with a multitude of Palestinians and learn what they think about peace with Israel. It is: peace without Israel. If Israel were to make peace with the Palestinian Authority tomorrow, and elections were finally held there, who do you think would win? The odds are Hamas, which is openly dedicated to Israel's destruction. And in this case, how long would it take for ISIS to help Hamas reach its goal. If Fatah were to win, and the PA was independent, we would still see bombs on Israel, and maybe ISIS too. The bottom line re "peace" with the Palestinian Authority is the beginning of the end of Israel.
10. Yet u want to make impasse PERMANENT in 2 states? Imbeciles!
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   www.netzarim.co.il   (10.27.14)
11. Pals never accepted peace includes Jewish Israel.
Sam ,   Canada   (10.27.14)
While the focus has been on settlements and Israel accepting a Palestinian state the diplomats paid little attention to Palestinians accepting a Jewish Israel. So, they got nowhere and as long as they keep that attitude they will get nowhere.Serves everyone right for avoiding the main issue because they were too afraid to bring it up.
12. bibi is right. pa is the enemy as are getto jews and obama,
ralph   (10.27.14)
13. Mr American diplomat
Arnold ,   Montreal   (10.27.14)
Please so not worry. We will follow your lead and put them onto reservations
14. Isn't it time ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.27.14)
... for the ersatz "palestinians" to assume their rightful role? They are a vanquished people -- six wars; six losses. Nearly a century of unmitigated violence and terror, visited against the Jewish people both in the State of Israel and in the Diaspora. The United States is a large country, with millions of acres of uninhabited land. If the U.S. feels that strongly about giving these unrepentant terrorists a state, they can do so on their own land mass.
15. listen and read
(10.28.14)
Listen to what the Arabs said since 1993, read the PLO and Hamas Charters. They never hid their central belief that there will be no negotiated peace as long as Israel still exists.
16. Hope for peace
Walid ,   Spain   (10.28.14)
Was there ever hope for peace in the last 66 years? How many peace conferences and negotiations as well as agreements took place during all this time? I canĀ“t count any more. The real fact is that Israel does not want peace and does not want the creation of a Palestinian state. The objective of Israel is to expand and expand swallowing land from Palestinians and later on Jordan, Lebanon and Syria until they have their greater Israel. This is why we will never see peace in the Middle East.
17. To #16 Walid
Andi ,   Israel   (10.28.14)
Yeah yeah Greater Israel. I guess that's why Israel withdrew from Gaza, very expansionist indeed!
18. #13- Actually most Native Americans are NOT
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (10.28.14)
on reservations and even those on reservations are FULL USA CITIZENS. So if Israel wants to follow the USA example, just Annex the west bank and Gaza and make every human within the new borders of Israel a FULL ISRAELI CITIZEN.
