1. Insights about incitement:
Scharp ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (11.19.14)
Ending the incitement would not end the conflict, but could reduce tension and violence. Abbas, Netanyahu and Bennet and others should be criticized. Philosophically - you could say that incitement is an expression that shows the root of the conflict: intransigence, not recognizing the rights of other people. No one knows if Intifada 3 will be an updated version of I1 or I2. At this moment, the police, Shin Beth and the army have to work hard, fight terrorism, arrest teenagers and so on. Great Barnea-words about Netanyahu: "Now too, his tool box is empty. The books he published about the war on terror are unhelpful: He is forced to learn on the fly". Next book by Bibi : "How jewish and democratic Israel can defeat palestinian terrorists". Or resistance, freedom fighters, "uprisers". But Barnea is wrong on one point - that there are no winners in this situation. The winners are all the israelis and palestinians (and their suupporters around the world), that don´t want two states and peace. It might be a pyrrhic victory, and it might lead to an even bigger disaster in the future, but Another intifada, and another Defensive Shield, would be a victory for some people.
2. !! Total Hysteria: Not Useful, Not Informed
Ovadiah ben Avraham ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.19.14)
3. Violence is part of cycle as Pals leave no door to peace
Sam ,   Canada   (11.19.14)
Peace to Palestinians means Israel hands over the country to them. When they are disappointed to see that's not happening they get into violence. After they have been bashed around for a while they will ask for or accept a truce. The US and EU will push for useless peace talks and yada, yada, yada. The cycle repeats itself.
4. not surprising
(11.19.14)
PLO/Fatah has always followed this route. There is a period of negotiations where the Arab side strengthens and seizes more land without making concessions, while Israel yields interests and makes many concessions to advance the negotiations. When the negotiations reach a point where the Arabs must make some concession, they start violence and blame Israel. Netanyahu was an idiot for releasing terrorists, imposing a building freeze on Jews, and encouraging massive Arab land grabs knowing that eventually Abbas would leave the negotiations. Also, does Barnea live in Israel? Where are the 10 years of quiet? 2004-2005, preparation for and implementation of violent ethnic cleansing of Gush Katif; 2006: Shalit kidnapping, Kassam rockets, 5-month operation "Summer Rains", Second Lebanon War. 2007 13 Israelis and 335 Arabs killed, many rockets fired. 2008 rockets and fighting the whole year, "Warm Winter" 2008-2009 "Cast Lead" 2010 relatively calm, "only" 2 Israeli dead 2011 attacks from Sinai, "only" 8 dead 2012 "Returning Echo", "Pillar of Defense" 2013 relatively calm because Hamas is recovering from "pillar of defense", fighting Egypt 2014 "Protective Edge"
5. Demolishing homes
Mike ,   Tel Aviv   (11.19.14)
Demolishing homes of terrorists is pointless and counterproductive. In fact it's simply vindictive. It is usually the case that the terrorist is already dead or imprisoned so why is his family to blame for what he as an adult did? It also looks bad on the international stage, and it is also problematic because this standard obviously applies only to Arabs. Why was Yigal Amir's family home or Baruch Goldstein's family home not blown up?
6. 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who
Scott ,   Haifa   (11.19.14)
love you.
7. #5
(11.19.14)
Amir and Goldstein were subject to Israeli criminal law, so destroying their houses is illegal. In any case, what do you expect to achieve from such destruction? Your claim that the destroying the terrorist houses is pointless, vindictive and counterproductive is simply false and betrays ignorance of reality. The terrorist families celebrated when they heard of their sons' deaths as heroic Arab soldiers. Not only will the families enjoy great prestige and respect in their society, they will become very wealthy from the PLO pension (possibly also from Qatar and Turkey) they will get. Punishing the family is not vindictive at all, it is a good way of teaching the neighborhood that you don't get rich by chopping up Jewish grandfathers.
8. Nahum, a great article as always, but we HAVE TO stop these inflaming situations
concerning our side   (11.20.14)
and only a little citation or footnote to the footnotes: cit: "and a campaign for his removal funded by billionaires from America" || this time there was no need for them, the billionaires from America funded THAT Netanyahu and Bennet, Feiglin et al ARE the dictators of Israel, fulfilling THEIR agenda and not developing calm - - For more and some background look to Zal Lackow, facebook. There is no other way:  We HAVE TO stop this inflaming and inflaming situations.
9. The 10 quiet years are behind us
connie mack ,   camden   (11.19.14)
Subpoena the Minister Of Internal Security. Demand that he justify the random, heartless murder of the two suspects. Why did the police and border patrol not recruit a negotiator to TALK with them and reveal their grievances. Will he blame the officer/commander on location for the impulsive targeted assassination? Ms. Tzippy Livny and /or former Chief of General Staff Shaul Mofaz could have easily placated them by offering the Temple Mount, Gush Etzyon or Ma'leh Adumim. We will now never know whether the two murdered suspects were reasonable partners or savage beasts. NEVER Their poor mourning mothers.
10. The 10 quiet years are behind us
connie mack ,   camden   (11.19.14)
Here in Israel, peace, tranquility and prosperity will reign as a sacred Trinity as soon as Knesset legislation force-closes Yisrael Hayom. Then we will enjoy the security that all citizens of Cuba and North Korea take for granted.
11. Total Israeli victory produces permanent peace
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.20.14)
Remember how loud, arrogant and aggressive the Nazis were? They were going to conquer the world. They were going to last 1,000 years... How come Europe lives in peace today? The answer is simple. The Nazis were resoundingly defeated by the Nazis. Similarly, total Israeli victory over "Palestinians" is the only answer to permanent peace in Israel.
12. Re No. 11.
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (11.20.14)
Just in case any reader is taken in by Chaim and his ilk, 1. The Nazis were defeated but post-War Germany has thrived with support from its former enemies. No talk of ethnically cleansing the Germans. Be thankful for it. 2. Peace in Europe? The former Yugoslavia? Ukraine? You must be joking.
13. Gaza is the key
Avi L.   (12.02.14)
Had this government ended Hamas rule in Gaza, the islamists would be licking their wounds, Abbas and his own band of cronies would be rouling a piece of land, getting even with Hamas (middle east way), all the region would be looking at Israel as a serious partner, not some kind of joke with a blue hairdo and finaly the US would be listening when we say something. But that's not the case, thanks to Bibi, Hamas is feeling that we'll never smash it, it is rising its head and killing us in synagogues.
14. CIVIL DEBATE
connie mack ,   camden   (12.18.14)
Hello readers and editors, Kindly help me with some data. How does one become or earn the title "Top Commenter? Do these TCs enjoy the benefit of non-edited, automatically printed comments? Are they the tried, tested and proven intellectual elite among the readers of YNET? Secondly. Perhaps we could ask our contributors, both "Top Commenters and Talkbacks, to clean up their texts, substitute vulgarities and obscenities with conventional schoolhouse vocabulary, and submit sanitized literature for readers to read, peruse, ignore and contemplate. My great grandparents were observant Jews. Nevertheless, i was raised in a community where even the adults commonly used unconventional or slang pejorative synonyms to describe or insult opponents, people of other races, Jews, umpires, heartless felons and police officers. As in various milieus, rather offensive, inelegant alternative words for body parts, organs and functions were recruited to describe or define a disliked individual. A common denominator among most of the expletives was/is that they refer to parts of the anatomy that in Western Civilizations, humans, in contradistinction to other forms of life, conventionally conceal when in public. and life exercises that are performed "behind closed doors." In the public forum of YNET "Commentors" and "Talkbacks" readers are entitled to agree and disagree, praise and criticize, ridicule and flatter. However, we should restrain ourselves from polluting the literary environment with linguistic sewerage-fragrances and body-waste aromas. Please keep your written language unsullied and diplomatically respectable. Thank you, connie mack
