Just looked up the penalties in my state for the same crime. 10 to 25 years is not death is involved. Two and a half years is a stay in a country club dormitory..
Do they get to take their golf clubs, too?

Maybe because the Arabs show no remorse?
Or could it be that an Arab defendant often starts off by denying the israeli court's jurisdiction and interrupt the court's proceedings with political declamations?
Either way, they give the court no reason to be lenient.
