1. Reality Bites
Zechariah   (01.25.15)
The Islam Cannot destroy The Jews in Israel for now but survival depends on an Army with Tough Well Trained Soldiers Highly Motivated and the highest technological equipment . Would not rush with settlements or Provocing those psychoJohadi or Fatah Baath too much at this time. Need to Equip Army cole social Gap.
2. Change dirrection?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.25.15)
Oh, I'm all for that. How about we call it like it is -- Judea and Samaria are part of Israel. Terrorist Arabs are not welcome in the Jewish State. Pack 'em all up and send them to Gaza. That's their "palestinian" state. The only opportunity these terrorist scum will ever have. Better make the most of it. The "palestinians" are seriously intellectually deficient. Six time aggressors; six time losers. They are lucky, is what they are, that we will give them Gaza. Of course -- depending on what they do -- that's subject to retraction. The "palestinians" would be well advised not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
3. The truth hurts
Doc ,   cape town   (01.25.15)
the truth hurts but the truth shalt set you free. There is no solution and the article is stating the truth. Either way the world hates Israel and suicide is not an option. Time to accept the truth and its consequences ...which will be considerable but inevitable anyway..either way..... There is no solution... Question..why people don't see it ?. Answer ....they don't want to see it.
4. In the process 5 million Arabs must be repatriated home to
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (01.25.15)
Mecca where there are no Jews whatsoever and Arabs will live there in endless happiness forever and ever.
5. Jihad is at the heart of Islam
CJK   (01.25.15)
islam is submission and without jihad there can be no submission.
6. Why only "west of Jordan"?! There was a treaty signed in San
(01.25.15)
Remo: that's the one that should be binding.
7. no diplomatic solution
Shira ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.25.15)
r. Meltzer is right! but who will do this? Who can we vote for that will have the courage to do what is needed to for the survival of Israel? Please tell us!
8. There is a solution to a degree
Ron ,   oc us   (01.25.15)
The two people need a divorce. Leiberman has one of the pieces. Get rid of the Wadi. Pay Arabs to otherwise leave Israel and stop with the welfare/stipends that encourage Arab birth rate. The 65,000 African's that are here illegally must go. The Illegal Arabs exemplified by the latest bus terrorist also must go. Yes the Arabs get a terrority perhaps a state on part of the west bank even part of Jerusalem but at least they won't be the ball and chain around Israel's neck. The Jews must make the Arabs in it's midst marry east to Jordan. The Arabs need to leave Israel.
9. Author's perspective
Robert Haymond ,   Israel   (01.25.15)
As the author points out, and very clearly at that, Ït is what it is" and we might as well recognize the reality of the situation, distasteful as it is and proceed from such altered principles.
10. Arabisme
Nick ,   Den Haag Holland   (01.25.15)
"Islam rejects Jewish sovereignty, Arabism rejects Zionism." It's time for the world to understand that the Arabs are in fact the biggest occupiers of the Middle-East.
11. Placing your head in the sand
(01.25.15)
The author probably hasn't lifted his head from the sand since Israel made a peace agreement with Egypt or Jordan. You could have had the same kind of peace agreement with Palestinians instead of mutual hell if you didn't continue grabbing West Bank land and the whole Jerusalem. Maybe the author is right after all and there is no solution -- because your greed is incurable.
12. re: #4 Repatriation for Jews to Germany, Spain & Yemen....
The Arabist ,   Los Angeles, USA   (01.25.15)
Ashkenazi's can repatriate back to Yiddlandia, the Sephardim can finally return to Spain, and the Mizrahi can take advantage of the unrest in Yemen to carve out an Arab Jewish Utopia where they can live like the Arabs they once were proudly.
13. Oslo is DEAD !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (01.25.15)
It was so, from it's very beginning !
14. There is no-one more removed from reality than
Shachar ,   Eilat   (01.25.15)
the author and the extreme right. Complex situations, historical changes, social upheaval, population dynamics in a multi-cultural society....none of these are ever addressed by the right. They only ever want or see something simple, one dimensional that fits there ideology. If it's not us against them they are completely lost. Yoel, you have never faced reality, you don't have the tools. There are a myriad of options between the utopian peace dream and the armeggeddon you crave.
15. #13 Long live Geneva Initiative!
(01.25.15)
Unlike Oslo, this initiative is a comprehensive peace plan that sets out clear goals. According to a 2010 poll it had support of about half of Israelis and half of Palestinians. Of course, terrorists and their supporters from both sides are doing all they can to scuttle this initiative.
16. solution
suha ,   aboudees   (01.26.15)
bad diplomacy is not a solution but no diplomacy is not a solution .....war on islam and arabs is stupid solution so let it as it is and this is the fear to israel not the palastinians as they will not agree forever to be followers
17. To nr. 5.
Sjoerd van der Velde ,   Hoorn, Holland   (01.25.15)
Quite right. According to the arab/Arabian language, "islam" and everything, which has to do about it, means complete submission and surrender to that ideologie/cult/sect. Let everybody form her/his own opinion/choice about that.
18. To Shachar #14
Yoel Meltzer ,   Israel   (01.26.15)
I crave armeggeddon? I have never faced reality? I (along with the rest of the right and the extreme right) only see things as simple, that fit my ideology? Perhaps you would like to relate to specific points in my article? Or perhaps you would like to enlighten us w/the myriad of options that you mentioned?
19. israeli conflict
Buckland ,   UK   (01.25.15)
ok Mr Meltzer You solve the conflict
20. It is either a political solution or military defeat
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (01.25.15)
Without a political solution, which will be extremely painful for Israelis, Israel HAS NO FUTURE. Israel can not use military force to make their delusions come true. The rest of the world has the same exact weapons Israel has and they know how to use them just as well as Israelis. And for all those that will naively point out that Israel has won in the past, I would like to point out that all the great armies of the past won right up until they day there were defeated and humiliated. It is 100% IMPOSSIBLE for Israel to win every war - they will lose eventually if they keep using force instead of negotiations.
21. We can go by the Prophets.
"Judah Leon" ,   Jerusalem   (01.26.15)
22. The proposed solutions are dangerous
Moshe ,   Israel   (01.26.15)
The author's analysis of the reality is perfect, but his solutions spell suicidal components : 1) One sided cancelation of Oslo "peace" accord by Israel will almost certainly prompt sharp hostile reaction from Western countries (inter alia), including US, and within world public. Israel might be demonized as a war monger, and ostracized with additional sanctions, to the point of past South Africa. 2) Annexation of Judea and Samaria with its mostly inimical Arab population, apart from possible akin world response, will create a bi-national state, heralding Israel's future demise.
23. # 20 A political solution
Moshe ,   Israel   (01.26.15)
As the author points out, the sole solution the Arabs are ready to accept, as emerged also from the many negotiations with the Palestinians, is Israel being wiped out off the map. Thus, according to his diagnosis, you are stupid, or anti-Semite, or both.
24. #20
Clearsighted ,   Boston   (01.27.15)
What rock have you been living under for the last 30 years. What delusions are you talking about? This is a religious war. There is nothing to negotiate. The jihadis are not interested in negotiating or in land for peace. That's a Western leftist construct. The jihadis simply want the Jews dead. If the jihadis laid down their weapons there would be peace. If the Israelis laid down their weapons there would be no more Israel. Whether or not Israel will ultimately lose or not is really not the point. The real point is that negotiating with people who only want Jews dead will not alter the outcome except for the worse. After the Gaza 2005 experiment colossal fail, anyone who can't see that is willfully stupid.
25. AWESOME!!!! YES!!! Finally in an Israeli paper gets it!
JVC ,   LA, USA   (01.27.15)
If this sentiment takes root I might have to make Aliya! I only ever hear this from my gentile American friends, the Christians, my military and cop buddies and cultural conservatives here in the US. Gosh, I can't believe an Israeli has now come around. If this keeps up and this acknowledgement turns into a will to fight & dominate the battlefield like pre-intifada days... there might actually be peace. Then what would we do?
26. #24 is a fine example of parnoid delusion
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (01.27.15)
The REALITY is NO ONE other than a few thousand crazy people wants to kill Jewish people. A majority of the people on earth just want justice for the Arabs, which Israel could provide by giving up lots of land, water, cash and apologies for invading the Mideast. This is mostly a land war, NOT a religious war, except for all the Israelis that have used religion as an excuse to attack Arabs. The bottom line is either Israel negotiates or eventually it will lose its last war. Brute force will NOT protect Israel's future.
27. to add to #26
Alan ,   usa   (01.27.15)
neither will Obama.
