1. Visit to US
Kate ,   Atlanta   (01.25.15)
We welcome a strong leader. Americans need to hear from Israel or Obama will be their voice. Cameron has been lobbying congress here on behalf of the president's plan to allow Iran to continue its manufacturing of nuculear weapons. They hate us but you more! Obama will never lift a finger toward your protection.
2. ".... even more hostile..."
oded ,   usa   (01.25.15)
plllllease- obama is a scooll yard bully wanna- be, who will not any opportunity to negate and deflate bibbi. obama knows he cannot push bibbi too far, but is eagerly awaiting for the hnnunzog and the bird to take over... then you'lll see what a"""friend" obama really is.
3. This has nothing to do with the U.S. government
Devorah   (01.25.15)
It has everything to do with Obama playing to a muslim house, and he wants his legacy to be that he had a key role in the destruction of Israel.
4. Obamalek
Abe4 u ,   Migdal ha EmekIsrael   (01.25.15)
Bibi was invited, and rightly accepted the invitation. No way that Herzog or Livni would have been invited to speak to the joint houses of congress. They can't even speak to their own supposedly supporters without stammering and spitting venom. They are cry babies, and whine about any and everything that Bibi does. They call themselves the Zionist Party ? What a farce !! They are super anti and postbZionists. Let's see how their Arab partners accept them with their new tailored name . They will be shunned and rejected, not only by their Arab cohorts, but by us Israelis who care about our beloved country.
5. Netanyahu is a disgrace to world Jewry
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Mount Laurel, NJ   (01.25.15)
Go ahead Bibi and attack Iran. You will not be able to destroy their nuclear facilities, and you will set them back at most a year or two while galvanizing the Iranian people, who hate the mullahs, to rally in support of having a nuclear weapon. The price of oil will double throwing America and Europe into a deep recession. The posters who fantasize about Israel destroying Iran's capabilities obviously forgot that Israel fought hezbollah to a standstill in 2006 and beat Hamas this summer by destroying more than 10,000 homes and killing more than 500 children. It took Israel weeks to stop Hamas and Hamas has no army, no planes, no tanks, and no artillery. Iran is not Hamas and has the means and the will to inflict terrible harm but Netanyahu loves throwing stones at a hornets nest. Sooner or later innocent Israelis will pay the price for your Prime Minister who is causing Israel and world Jewry great harm for his saber rattling and war mongering. Go ahead, Bibi, attack Iran. The boycott and divestiture movement will increase beyond your worst nightmare and you will have succeeded at making Israel a pariah nation not only in Europe, Asia, and Africa, but in America as well. American Jews are getting fed up with Netanyahu and support for Israel in America is decreasing thanks to Israel's Prime Minister.
6. protocol vs. life and death issues
carlos ,   san diego CA   (01.25.15)
The whole issue is absurd. 1) What is freedom of speech? To let Netanyaqhu speak wherever and whenever he wants 2) How can you compare the argument of protocol vs. a life and death issue for Israel? are you critics of Netanyahu brain death or just stupid?
7. Division of powers in US constitution
Jack Zeller ,   israel   (01.25.15)
One of the advantages of the US constitution is certain knowledge the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary are independent and of equal import. To have a long distance nervous breakdown about the power of the US Legislature relating to Netanyahu's invitation indicates either ignorance or disrespect. This will not be the first or last time that an invited speaker makes the President upset or worse.
8. 100% correct
Rafi ,   US   (01.25.15)
9. #5, uh, no sir, Electric Acid Koolaid Test is over.
JVC ,   LA, USA   (01.26.15)
Yeah, uh, midterms kinda were a little vote on Obama and his ideals. Guess 'O' didn't do so well. My guess is Netanyahu will still be Prime Minister when Obama goes on the guest lecture circuit to support Jimmy Carter's assertion that Israel (The Jews) are the cause of the world's ills. Big fail there, dude. Maybe try again or better yet, go back to your Utne reader & pray for peace.
10. Alarmist view
Brod ,   USA   (01.25.15)
The writer is alarmist over nothing. The fact is Israel is not a colony of Obama. Obama is irrelevant. He is being controlled and manipulated by the Muslim Brotherhood that hates Israel and America. Obama is bad for America and Israel. The American people expect Congress to impeach Obama. The PM speech to Congress is vital for America and Israel. The Leftists do not know the GOD of Israel and the Land of Israel. Ergo, they continue to spew their crap that undermines Israel.
11. Israel will pay a much bigger price if Iran is not stopped
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (01.26.15)
by Congress because Obama is not going to do it.
12. Obama's time as President is approaching its end
Vlad   (01.25.15)
You seem to be forgetting that Obama leaves office in January 2017.
13. price to pay
rm ,   amsterdam NL   (01.26.15)
Nethanyahu should run the invite past the White House...he didn't. Now if he goes to congress and tells them directly that they have the power to go against a presidential veto....than I think yes..there is a prize to pay. And quite rightly too. There's only so many times you can put up your middle finger towards the president of a supposedly friendly country. ( it's certainly not the first time Bibi scoffed the White House)
14. @5 Koch - and your alternative is?
jrebecca ,   Modiin   (01.25.15)
15. Does foolish author want Bibi to REFUSE to address Congress?
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.27.15)
This article in unforgivably stupid. Does the author want Bibi to REFUSE to address the overwhelmingly friendly U.S. Congress???? Obama is hostile to Israel and always will be. He is not even a friend of America. It would be irresponsible of Bibi to ignore our friends to butter up our foes. Ynet, it is sad that such warped leftist commentary is given the time of day in your publication.
16. @14 - IF Iran gets nuclear weapons then simply live with it
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (01.26.15)
The People of the US, Russia, France, UK, China, Pakistan and India have lived for over 50 years with their "sworn enemies" having nuclear weapons. What is Israel going to do when Pakistan (a Sunni Muslim country with nuclear weapons) finishes development of their ICBM missiles (or buys them from China, Russia or NK)? Then there is the problem where Saudi Arabi (not exactly a stable country) has Chinese made MRBM that can carry a nuclear warhead. Are you going to start a war with Saudi Arabia? Get over your irrational paranoia, especially that directed at the wrong country.
17. @9 - the election results don't mean what you think
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (01.26.15)
Especially when Obama's numbers are increasing by the day and the numbers for congress are diving toward zero (11% now). The republicans have only one mandate - improve the economy for the middle class, NOT to start any wars or mistreat women and minorities. If the republicans don't start governing quickly most of them will be gone in 2016.
18. @17... Either you live in a city or your #'s are bad.
JVC ,   LA, USA   (01.27.15)
The midterm results were a response to Obama's incompetence, not his ideals. The unwillingness of the Colbert/Stewart crowd to wage wars, regardless of how they're perceived, as defensive measures (anti-ISIS) or aggressive (Bush and Iraq)... you can be sure that there will be a war, regardless if you, and the people like you, want one or not. The war will be against the West by a group of people who not only mistreat women and minorities; they murder them. Guess who they are? (Hint: they're not Republicans, lol) Your concerns about "social justice," "economic justice," etc. are well founded but increasingly irrelevant in the face of the aggression targeting us. Liberals are not quick to understand this. There are too many indicators that we are in the initial stages of a global conflagration and if I am right in that assessment, I want to see Republicans at the helm, not lib Democrats. My suspicion is I'm not alone in this assessment.
19. #18 - Republicans have lots of land but few people
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (01.27.15)
The states where republicans dominate are mostly decreasing in population and the ones where the population is increasing it is because of non-whites who tend to be democrats, which is why Georgia and Texas are eventually going to turn democratic.#18 should understand this because he is a miniscule, powerless minority in California.
20. Spyguy: Take the Red pill...
JVC ,   LA, USA   (01.28.15)
California's divisions are east/west, not north/south. Have you been to CA recently? Everything north of SF and east of the coastal ranges is Republican, including the Hispanics, all the way to the Nevada border. LA and SF have the population and they are delusional Left, in part because cities separate Man from reality. As far the the blue- bastion northeast... its population has moved to the sunbelt and South. Hard to say what's going to happen there though I suspect you are very wrong about Texas. The historic mean suggests that they have been, and will be, their own entity for a long time to come. The divide in the US is more rural/urban than Dem/Rep. The values we in the rural areas adhere to are sustainable and in keeping with the laws of nature, rather than the laws of Man. Your liberal cities are fed and maintained by the water and energy we send them and the food we grow with that water. There are more guns in the community where I live than most National Guard bases yet we have zero violent crime and negligible theft rates. Yet the cities are imploding. The violence in cities isn't due to legal ownership of firearms, it's the illegal ownership of firearms by deviant, urban actors. Keep your liberalism, keep your cities and hope it all stays together. ..."Cities are pestilential to the morals, the health, and the liberties of man" - Thomas Jefferson. Agreed. The political liberalism that emanates from Western urban is just one more indicator of that.
21. Division of powers in US Constitution
Mike Pizzaiolo ,   Raleigh, USA   (01.28.15)
My response to Jack Zeller's talkback with the same subject, which I consider to be ignorant and disrespectful: the President and executive branch is the ONLY branch with the responsibility and authority to represent the United States in dealing with non-US countries. What Boehner did in directly inviting Netanyahu to appeal to the United States Congress directly, was a violation of Federal law. The Logan Act specifies: "Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."
