The Vatican is part of the network of confused liberalism which leaves you with a very uneasy feeling with every act it makes. The uneasy feeling that you get comes from a failure and also a deep seated unwillingness of all so called "liberals" to get to the heart and truth of the nature of Islamic terrorism and how if it is left unchecked it is going to destroy all our lives .

Even if was Francis told Abbas was: may you be an angel of peace... The Pope should be reminded of the faith of christians in the west bank, specially in BethLechem. It seems that Francies has not paid attention of the Palestians intentions not only reagrding Israel, but even Christianity. When Francis held a mass in the Church of Nativity in BethLechem he did it under a picture of baby J wrapped up in a keffiah, as if in the time he was born Palestine and palestians existed. PLO has just applied the same distorted history they have always presented to the world, hinting that J was a palestinain baby.. And Francis did not utter one word of discontent by that distortion.. soon we will see how they will change the INRI under J feet in each picture and statue with the letters INRP... and probably Francis will keep silent at that too. The recognition of a Palestinian State is again accepting an historical falsehood. As it has been an historical fact that the Vatican always has distorted history, specially jewish history. And their own history too... Poor religion.. falsehood after falsehood.

This seems to be based on a mistranslation of Pope Francis' words. The Vatican reporter for the Italian newspaper La Stampa has it differently: As is tradition with heads of State or of government, Francis presented presented a gift to the Palestinian leader, commenting: “May the angel of peace destroy the evil spirit of war. I thought of you: may you be an angel of peace.” Exhorting someone to be an angel of peace and naming him as one are very different things.

The Holy Father greeted President Abbas quite properly and perspicaciously. The day is in sight when the Zionist usurpation will disappear and Palestine shall have fully shaken off its yoke from the River to the Sea. The Holy Father knows the future better than we ever can.
10. Pope was part of church's liberal wing in Argentina

So why should anyone be surprised that as Holy See he would pursue a series of "progressive" positions - on income inequality and capitalism, on climate change, on Islam, or on the Israel-Palestine question?
11. Pope Francis is not naive
CJK   (05.17.15)
he is an ideologue. he is a practitioner of liberation theology. he views the jewish state as a white colonial power and the arabs as victims of colonialism. francis does forget, like all leftists, that the arabs engaged in imperial wars for a thousand years and conquered huge territories, including jerusalem and israel. indeed, catholicisim and islam have been historically the greatest imperial and colonial forces in the world. abbas can do nothing for the catholic church. jerusalem, seat of zion, is sovereign jewish territory and will remain so eternally.

13. pope/abu maazen
nili bugli ,   rome italy   (05.17.15)
just a slight correction: the pope did not call abu mazen "angel of peace". he asked him to be an angel of peace. somewhere in the translations of the media, this was lost
14. Just another comment...
Adler   (05.17.15)
From psychology and philosophy perspective, what Pope Francis expressed was a simply though or believe, not necessarily the comment has to be perceived as a reflect of reality, or in other words how is Abbas character. So? What you can expected from a good leader like Abbas if he is a sweetheart and peaceful leader? Well, Abbas logically couldn't ask from Israel for example to free Palestinians prisoners. - Israel government and Netanyahu have expressed occasionally, "Israel do not negotiate peace with terrorists". - Now, what can you expected also from a good leader like Netanyahu if he is willing to achieve Peace? yes, everybody knows history, epic crusaders, Greeks, Romans, Turkish occupiers, europe inquisition, the ww2 and the holocaust, the arrogant British occupiers... But Israel haves friendly ties with all those countries. Shalom
15. The naïve pope and his 'angel of peace'
Nick ,   Den Haag Holland   (05.17.15)
The only "peace" Abbas is interested in making with the Israelis is the peace of the grave. Can it be that the pope is ignorant of the fact that Palestinians – both Fatah and Hamas – do not recognize that the state of Israel even exists and that their utlimate goal is to destroy the Jewish state? This sort of obtuseness about the Palestinians is now the de facto position of most of the left in Europe. To ignore the serious, fanatical anti-Semitism of Abbas – a man who wrote a dissertation titled "The Other Side: the Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism" – is beyond belief for any educated person in the world. But the pople's warped worldview that praises Holocaust deniers while berating climate change "deniers" expresses the hypocrisy and moral blindness of the left in Europe and elsewhere.
