1. Boycott
Jason Alster ,   Wethersfield   (11.01.15)
Great answer to the boycotters. Actually, many intelligent Jews think a boycott is an American thing to do. However , many Americans think just the opposite and they support the Nation of Israel who have to name and live by their own decisions votes by the people of Israel, not by anyone else.
2. Fallacy of Academia needs no additional underpinning proof:
(11.01.15)
these & other intellectual dwarfs are living examples, of how you can sneak your way into the Ivory Tower with IQ equal that of a racoon! Disgrace to the human race & it's potential!
3. BDS is actually is actually a miserable
I don't think so !   (11.01.15)
lame excuse for modern day raw anti-Semitism. Notwithstanding its combination of leftist politics and blistering Islamic hatred, it still remains a modern day form of Nazism. It reinvented a new way of mass Jewish destruction based on stages. For now, BDS is on a viral political and propaganda onslaught against Israel, Israelis, Jews and Judaism. Later on, if we allow them, they want to implement a more diabolical phase, that of denying Israeli and Jewish existence. The last phase, if it were according to these modern day criminals, would be total destruction. I DON'T THINK SO. ,
4. The correct analysis is ...
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (11.01.15)
....that there is no correct analysis. Yoaz Hendel merely substitutes one oversimplification for another. I am entirely opposed to any boycott because in my view it is anti-democratic and unjust. However, again in my view, the rationale for Zionism is complex and replete with tensions between different strains of thought - religious, ideological and political. At the very least. Zionism must surely be viewed within the context of the rise of 19th century European nationalist movements and Herzl's response to the Dreyfus Affair. For many (most?) 19th and early 20th entury Jewish religious leaders Zionism was a marginal movement, if not an anathema. 'Next year in Jerusalem' is surely a spiritual, not literal, desire otherwise why do we still say it at the end of the Seder?
5. causing more harm than good
mike north ,   karmiel israel   (11.01.15)
Why do these self righteous Jewish professors have to always "make their point" so they can look good in the eyes of fellow goyim?Don't they know that their fellow colleagues hate them for being Jewish and gloat when the Jews criticise Israel. Come and live here and then give your opininon-you cowards! I lived in South Africa and I know what apartheid was. We might take actions for security sake-but this is not the apartheid that the nationalists created in South Africa. Look at our neighbours record of human rights -why does no one boycott them-you hypocrites????? Just let go some of your hot air and cool down your ego.
6. Ignorant Confused Professors
EZEKIAL HAIM ,   LONDON UK   (11.01.15)
Levitsky specializes in South American Dictatorships and shows great ignorance of Middle Eastern politics and Islamist extremism . Weyl is an economist specializing in inequality and may be he thinks that by removing inequality there can be peace in the Middle East.He therefore also demonstrates ignorance of middle eastern and Islamic politics. These two narrow minded professors should stick to their narrow minded studies and avoid useless opining about topics they know nothing about.
7. While at it......
tiki ,   belgium   (11.01.15)
Send a copy to Obama & Clinton with their flamboyant but ignorant speeches and to the arrogant Europeans, who might learn something when reality hits and millions of fugitives will change their utopian, liberal and "democratic" world forever.
8. YOU RAISED THE WHITE FLAG
...DACON9   (11.01.15)
YOU AUTHOR GAVE UP THE FIGHT. Your article is wirtten out of fear. You have a few errors in terminology as well but YOU wouldn't notice it because you have addep set liberalism in your heart and mind. YOU DO ISRAEL AND ALL JEWS A GREAT INJUSTICE.
9. personal
john ,   toronto   (11.01.15)
Do not take it personal. It is at the end of the day about bread and butter issues.Balanced books bring stability if only Israel's lawmakers had encouraged it .Scrutiny of books is needed for any government.
10. These satiated American Jews...
M ,   milk&honey land   (11.01.15)
Today they support BDS against Israel because they believe that will fix the brains to these arrogant Israeli Jews. In 1941 they were indifferent to extermination camps program because they probably thought that this European Jewry rightly deserves it. Why were not they vocal in 1941 and why aren't they silent now?

So tell me why did you run, why did the Jews run From S. Africa, from Rhodesia, Algeria or let say Iran, not because they were an active part of the colonial or despotic regime? In Shah's Iran for example a Jewish dude was the head of the notorious SAvAK terror machine ,...
12. #4:Oy Bertram, you ARE taxing our patience with your naive,
(11.01.15)
seemingly learned dissertations. Things are much simpler than you pretend to perceive them to be: We are here because it is our Home. Much more so, than any European nation occupying their territory today. It has nothing to do with justice, fairness, Zionism, Buddhism, Vegan-ism , Deryfus & his cat! We've made it that far, NOW we must make sure that we prevail, so sorry-ass suckers like yourself shall have an address to mail their unwise postings to...Go eat some humus, it helps develop new cells!
13. Zionism:the right of the Jewish nation to self determination
c   (11.01.15)
these two self righteous ignorant moralists are certainly not zionists. zionists do not advocate for the boycott of the sole sovereign jewish state. if these two ignorant jews were zionists, they would advocate and help achieve the well being of the jewish state. after all, they do not advocate for the boycott of their country, one that has engaged in more wars and deaths than israel. you too, get a life and stop supporting islamic terrorists who are the enemies of israel, the united states and the entire west. go out and condemn the horrific atrocities committed by muslims against children and women, even in the refugee camps of germany and the muslim quarters of paris where gang rapes are common.
14. Bertram,
T-900   (11.03.15)
You wrote : "Next year in Jerusalem' is surely a spiritual, not literal, desire otherwise why do we still say it at the end of the Seder? " We say that because those who wrote the Seder wanted to bind Jerusalem to the Jewish experience in exile . Same with the Jewish wedding vow that also mentiones Jerusalem . Our forefathers knew that they were dealing with a short sighted People (see Moses on the Mountain , and the Golden Calf for reference) . However binding us in tradition to Jerusalem also served another purpose , which was to remind us where we must go to end our exile , when it was feasible .
15. To No. 12.
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (11.02.15)
My comments seem to have hit a raw nerve, and your puerile response suggests to me that I might have said something worthwhile. I know you think dialogue and exchange of ideas is a waste of time - demagogues and the self-righteous mostly do - but I think they are the foundationdation of the good society. If all there is to being Jewish is mere survival in one's own land - without a thought as to the consequences for anyone else - what exactly is the point of it all? To answer that: I suppose it's to show that we can be just as bad as everyone else i.e. Israel becomes a 'normal' society.
16. Schmeckles
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (11.02.15)
That tenured, underworked and overpaid and defined benefit professors author such drivel is no surprise. Weep for their students. These two should focus their attention on the Nation Of Islam, Obama's idiot religious adviser Jeremy Wright, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, the Gulf States, Iran, Jew hating Europe and the United Nations but they are too cowardly to do that because they fear the repercussions that will inevitably be unleashed upon them. Students and funders should boycott their classes and send them to Brandeis where they can waste their time on the fools who attend that sham of acaademic freedom and politically correct cesspool.

"You Europeans had a chance of treating the Jews fair and square" Give us a one good reason why should they? No one invited you there you have not only invaded them but tried to impose your strange ideas, your lifestyle and customs not to mention refusing to assimilate and blend in ,... By the way, how do you treat your 'infiltrators', that's how do you call them? What makes you think that you deserve a better treatment than the way you treat them?
21. #11 What's the Iranian dude's name?
Benji ,   US   (11.02.15)
Post a link to this information about the Iranian Jewish dude. You aren't known for your credibility. Seems the only one who ran away from their country is you and Poland is much better off without you.

Did you respond on the New York Times page? Or just on Ynet?
24. fb David Martin: Hendel is not perfect
Adler J   (11.01.15)
honestly, i read Hendel response to the washington post article this morning. My first impression about it was "i like Yoaz Hendel, he writes nice... " - Then i decided to read the Professor Harvard & Company article... the Professor's a narrative was excellent that Hendel didn't argued or perhaps he did not wanted to do it. ..Imagine how delight the guy was when Yoaz told him sarcastic : ×´you know what? the state of israel wasnt established to be a democracy..."

26. Conscience
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (11.01.15)
Kudos to Steven Levitsky and Glen Weyl! These two professors are numbered among those rare folk: Jews of conscience. They repudiate the illicit state of "Israel" (their stated "love" for that state is pap for the yokels) and join others of conscience in the just struggle to reverse the political crime of May 15, 1948. Keep up the good work!

It's beyond your reach. Go ahead and make yourself sick over the fact that ancient Israel is alive and well.
30. Graczek, Split, Bertram, Professors & assorted dreck: you

wish! We are home, we are here while you are slipping down the slippery slope towards Islamofascist future. May you all have a Merry Sharia! You SO deserve it, really.
