The reality is that the US military has a lot of respect for the IDF and their commanders don't like Obama any more than the Israelis. The US military, if unleashed, could put a quick end to ISIS if Obama would quit enabling Turkey and Qatar to fund and supply ISIS.

Americans are lax in safety but not allowed independent initiative on the battlefield.
On the other hand IDF is strict on safety but allows its soldiers to be flexible in battle to achieve better results.

Are you sure, as per your lead paragraph, that here were 173 US paratroopers present and that you are not confusing the figure with their unit number?
Indeed your photos show that their shoulder insignia is that of the US 173rd Airborne Brigade which is based in Italy where you say they went on leaving Israel.
