when a recuit comes to him and says that he's having problems dealing because of homophobic statements against him?"
A very good question and a very simple answer: that poor recruit, who just like all other recruits, is willing to sacrifice himself for his country and his people, will get either chastised, mocked or treated with total indifference. Is that the reality we want in the IDF? Another very simple answer: No!

3. The IDF Rabbi should b a rabbi for ALL soldiers

All soldiers should feel safe with the rabbi and the rabbi should foster a positive and safe environment in the IDF. Soldiers give their lives for everyone queer or straight. All soldiers, LGBT or otherwise should be treated with the utmost respect and if there is a rabbi who does not recognise that, then he should not be connected to the IDF in ANY way. I hope the IDF will keep its morals and principles and fire Yigal Levinstein.

4. Fundamental right of freedom of speech
As opposed to the "artistic" sexual assault case at Shenkar (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4830419,00.html) there are going to be a penalty for voicing a personal opinion (to which I do not agree, but)? I do so hate hypocrisy

How interesting! A rabbi who speaks against LGBT community is wrong and to be condemned but a rabbi who relegates women to second class citizens in the army and whose singing should not be listened to by men but could become justified objects of male lust in battle situation is acceptable? A sad sign of the times
