1. Dr. Friedman was wrong in the past as he is now

Several years ago after Erdogan came to power he predicted that Turkey will become one of the premier countries in the world economies and an exemplary democracy.

The exact opposite has happened as Turkey's GDP dropped 20% since, democracy is on the decline, freedom of expression and human rights are much worse.

Coming back to Yemen analysis, if Houthis gain the upper hand against Saudis then they will have to face both Al Qaida and ISIS indefinitely. In other words there will be permanent civil war in Yemen that the Houthis will be busy with and will not be able to turn their attention to Israel.

The main consequence of a Houthi victory in Yemen is the Shia centuries aspiration of conquering Mecca. The Houthis are just a few hundred km from Al Kaaba, the sacred shrine of all Islam that is now under Saudi control.

Getting their hands on Mecca and destroying it could well mean the end of Islam which is a very welcome result for the benefit of civilized humanity.
