Israel is a finalist in the Google Lunar X competition to sent a vehicle to the Moon that will take HD quality pictures and beam them back to Earth. Out of the 6 finalists from around the world Israel has the first launch date which is sometime this year so if the rocket gets to the Moon and the lander works ok then its possible that Israel will win. Even if they do not win if the lander touches down ok there will still be an Israeli flag on the Moon.

Israel's domestic Shavit satellite launch vehicle is not designed for carrying satellites as heavy as the Amos so they contracted Space X to send it up on a Falcon 9 which has quite a good reliability record.
Previous generations of the Amos were launched by Soyuz rockets Israel has never launched anything more than the small Offek series of satellites domestically.
