Hizbullah preparing to strike?
Security officials concerned Lebanese terror group could stage attack during Pesach; armed Hizbullah members spotted near army outposts recently By Eitan Glickman TEL AVIV - Security officials are increasingly concerned about a possible Hizbullah attack on Israel during the Pesach holiday this week, newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Tuesday.
Authorities are concerned the terrorist organization, which is sworn to Israel's destruction, could stage the attack at a time when northern Israel is flooded with tourists and hikers.
An IDF Northern Command official said Hizbullah will probably soon increase attacks on soldiers on the Israeli-Lebanon border, adding that a cell had been spotted in recent days moving near army outposts with sniper rifles.
Meanwhile, the army has prepared a list of possible Hizbullah positions to hit should the group carry out an anti-Israeli attack, military sources said.
More abductions?
Several explosive devices exploded in the Mount Dov border area Sunday afternoon, amid speculation that Hizbullah may be attempting to escalate tensions in the country's north. No injuries were reported in the blasts.
An IDF soldier was killed in January after several explosive devices planted by the Hizbullah in the same area exploded when an army jeep drove by the roadside bombs. A French army officer and a Hizbullah gunman were later killed in the exchanges of fire that followed the incident.
Hizbullah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah threatened on Friday that the group would abduct Israeli soldiers so it could negotiate with Israel for their release.
"We may need to return to the old methods of abductions for the purpose of prisoner exchanges," he said.
Nasrallah added that the Hizbullah will soon declare a "new stance" regarding the ongoing negotiations with Israel on a possible prisoner swap. Israel swapped about two dozen Lebanese and Arab prisoners last year for three dead soldiers and a businessman captive.
