Right to issue 'evacuation' stamps

Right wing activists propose introduction of new orange stamps holding pictures of evacuees, reading: ‘We won’t forget, we won’t forgive’
Efrat Weiss

In yet another sign that the wounds of evacuated settlers and their supporters have not yet healed, right wing activists are proposing the introduction of new orange stamps holding pictures of evacuees and the writing: ‘We won’t forget, we won’t forgive.’

The move is the latest in a series by settlers to publicize their tragedy to the Israeli public and make it clear that however completed the disengagement will not go down easily. A 32-stamp page will cost NIS 5 (USD 1).

Since September, when the last Israeli soldier left the Gaza Strip, settlers extended their ‘orange ribbon’ anti-disengagement campaign, distributing ‘We won’t forget, we won’t forgive’ stickers and T-shirts.

Stamps will go for NIS 5 a page

“The aim is to immortalize the eviction of Jews and the destruction of Gush Katif and northern Samaria,” an activist told Ynet. The stamps will be used on envelops and students’ notebooks, he explained.

In addition to pictures of settlers being evacuated by security forces, images of the 16 synagogues set on fire by Palestinians after the pullout have been printed also with the slogan, ‘We won’t forget, we won’t forgive’.

The stamps were launched a few days ago at a gathering of right wing activists in Jerusalem.

The question remains: Are these stamps valid to send letters by post in Israel? Yitzhak Rabihiya, Israeli Postal Authority spokesman, told Ynet that he is seeking legal advice before taking a decision.

“Following Ynet’s request the issue will be checked by various bodies in the postal authority and I will take a decision on how to deal with it in a legal manner,” Rabihiya said.
