Jerusalem's Mayor: UN can not divide the city




Jerusalem's Mayor Uri Lupolianski strongly opposed the demands made by an East Jerusalem Palestinian group Monday, announcing its intention to declare before the UN that they are formally "disengaging" from West Jerusalem, and forming an independent municipality in their section of the city.

 

"This is an ephemeral organization, 'disengaged' from the citizens of East Jerusalem," said Lupolianski. "…the UN does not have the authority to divide Jerusalem, any more than it has the authority to divide London, Paris or Washington." (Roee Nahmias)
