Israeli army officials have denied the report, saying the militants were injured in an accident between two Palestinian vehicles.

According to the Palestinian sources, during the incident, which occurred at around midnight, IDF soldiers patrolling the West Bank town by jeep ordered a Palestinian vehicle carrying five gunmen belonging to the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, Fatah's armed wing, to pull over. When the Palestinians refused, the soldiers opened fire and crashed into the vehicle, the sources said.

Among those reportedly injured in the incident was Qassam Barghouti, the son of Palestinian uprising leader Marwan Barghouti, who is serving multiple life sentences in an Israeli prison.

Earlier it was reported that 13 prisoners, all members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, escaped a Palestinian Authority prison in Nablus Friday night. All the men are wanted by Israel for involvement in terrorist activity.
