High Court: Broadcasting in territories illegal
Judges ask State to explain why it won't establish special broadcasting authority in West Bank. Left-wing group: Our stance has been reinforced Meirav Crystal The High Court of Justice on Thursday ordered the State to explain within 10 days why it won't work to establish a special broadcasting authority in the West Bank area. According to the law, the Second Authority for Television and Radio cannot impose its authority in the territories, and therefore a tender for a license to broadcast in the territories is illegal. The Gush Shalom left-wing organization claimed in a petition filed with the court Thursday that there was no legal foundation for a settlers' radio station, which they claimed would be politically biased.
A Gush Shalom official said in response, "The court has reinforced our stance that the tender procedure was faulty."
