PLO appoints Abbas 'president of Palestinian State'

The central committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) appointed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday as "president of the State of Palestine" – which the late Yasser Arafat declared in 1989.

Abbas now hold all three titles previously held by Arafat – chairman of the PLO, president of the Palestinian Authority, and president of the State of Palestine. (Ali Waked)
