A Syrian official told Qatar's al-Watan newspaper on Wednesday that US president-elect Barack Obama's decision to name Senator Hilary Clinton his future secretary of state indicated that peace in the Middle East is, indeed, a top priority for him.

According to the report, Clinton's appointment is perceived as a clear signal that the new administration will strive to resuscitate the Israeli-Syrian peace talks. (Roee Nahmias)
