WJC leader denies accusations of embezzlement

Rabbi Singer 'shocked and saddened by Bronfman's accusations that he 'helped himself to cash' from WJC office

Rabbi Israel Singer denied recent accusations of embezzlement of funds from the World Jewish Congress.  Singer was recently fired from the WJC, where he had served as chairman of the Policy Council.

Last week, Edgar Bronfman, WJC president and Singer's former employer, accused Singer of "helping himself to cash from the WJC office." The allegation was sent in a letter of explanation to the president of the European branch of WJC, who was one of many organization members objecting to Singer's dismissal.

In response to Bronfman's statement, Singer said: “I am shocked and deeply saddened that Edgar, a man with whom I have worked so closely for 30 years would go to such lengths to publicly shame both himself and me. These accusations are baseless, and I categorically deny them.

For over 30 years, I have given of my heart and soul to achieve the objectives of the WJC and for the benefit of the Jewish people. I will not engage in any petty or mean-spirited or valueless arguments.

I will spend the rest of my life in pursuing causes for the Jewish people and human rights, and to remedy injustices against those victimized by prejudice and ignorance. My efforts will never cease," Singer said.
