Croatia to host Israeli summer party

In bid to present Jewish state as normal and vibrant country, Israeli Embassy planning two-week event on island of Pag in Adriatic Sea. Some 1 million people to enjoy various performances, fashion show, mass Hora dance, art exhibits and Israeli gourmet food

A million people, a fashion show starring an Israeli supermodel, a mass Hora dance and Israeli gourmet food. Yes, we're talking about an Israeli celebration, although it won't be held here but rather in Croatia.

The party's goal is to try to convince the world that Israel is not just a country of conflicts and blood, but also a normal, vibrant country which loves to live.

The mass event will begin in late July and will last about two weeks. It will be held on the island of Pag in the Adriatic Sea.

The event is titled "Israeli Magic" and is one of the most expensive productions ever organized by an Israeli embassy abroad.

So what else is expected? A lot of dancing, performances by successful Israeli bands Infected Mushroom and Astral Projection, a performance by mime Hanoch Rosenn and Israeli art exhibits.

Chef Ran Shmueli and his staff will be in charge of the food, offering Israeli-style delicatessen.

'Non-political exposure to 1 million Europeans'

The Croatian island, which is known to host such huge summer parties, will be flooded with Israeli flags.

"This is a non-political exposure of Israel to some 1 million Europeans, who will get to know Israel through their legs, stomach and minds," says Israeli Ambassador in Croatia Yossi Amrani.

One million young adults from all over Europe are expected to attend the event.

The Israeli Embassy has recruited former Croatian-Israeli football star Giovanni Rosso to help promote the event.

"It's an honor," Rosso said last week. "It's going to be fun. I kind of feel like Croatia's ambassador in Israel, but also like Israel's ambassador in Croatia."

Even the Croatian president will grace the great celebration with his presence.

"Everywhere I go, the first thing people ask me about is the Israeli party," says Deputy Ambassador Itai Ben-Dov.
