Incitement

Published: 03.01.05, 20:15 / Israel Homepage

The issue of incitement to violence has been a hot topic in Israel since the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995. Some left-wing politicians accused right-wing activists, parliamentarians, and rabbis of fomenting hatred at the time that eventually led

to the late prime minister’s killing.

Notably, incitement to violence is illegal in Israel, although the standards for applying the law are not always clear. In recent months, as the pullout debate has intensified, figures from both the Left and the Right have charged that members of the other camp have been engaging in incitement that could eventually lead to violence.
