IDF kills suspect tied to Tel Aviv bombing

Paratroopers find Islamic Jihad terror suspect responsible for Tel Aviv nightclub bombing; London newspaper reports Israel handed U.S. proof of Syrian involvement

The IDF killed an Islamic Jihad terror suspect Thursday who was among those responsible for the Tel Aviv nightclub bombing two weeks ago.

The suspect has been identified as Muhammad Abu-Hazna from the village of Atil near Tul Karm in the West Bank.

An elite paratroopers unit arrived at Abu-Hazna's hideout and called for him to surrender.

Abu-Hazna opened fire on the soldiers and shot an

army dog sent into the house.

Soldiers returned fire and called in a bulldozer to flatten the structure, killing the suspect.

Tel Aviv Attack

Five people died in the Tel Aviv nightclub bombing and more than 50 were injured after a suicide bomber detonated himself at the entrance to the club.

The suicide bomber was later identified as Abdullah Badran, 21, from the village of Dir el-Asun, located north of Tul karm.

Moments after the attack Islamic Jihad and the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades initially claimed responsibility for the attack.

Military sources had said at the time the order that launched the attack originated from the Syrian Islamic Jihad and was carried out by its Tul Karm headquarters.

Israel has proof of Syrian involvement

The London-based Sunday Times newspaper

reported Sunday Israel handed the U.S. an audio tape proving the Damascus-based Islamic Jihad General Secretary Ramadan Shalah personally issued the Tel Aviv bombing.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice confirmed this by saying the U.S. has substantial proof of Syrian Islamic Jihad involvement in the attack.

The newspaper also reported that as a result of these findings, the Mossad would probably target Shalah.
