Army to remove Gaza Strip military equipment that is not currently in use; officials say move would not compromise IDF activity
GAZA - The IDF will begin removing logistical equipment from its Gaza Strip bases in two weeks, in the framework of the disengagement plan.
As part of the preparations to evacuate Gaza settlers, the army has already formulated a plan for moving military bases from their current location inside the Strip into new positions around it.The complexity of the operation makes it impossible to complete in a short period of time, hence forcing the IDF to begin the process of equipment removal in early April.
Barring a last-minute change, the IDF will start the operation by relocating structures, workshops, and various types of equipment that are currently not in use.
'Move will not affect regular security operations'
Notably, army forces are deployed at numerous points across the Strip. Military forces in the area are spread among three large bases, as well as dozens of positions, posts, and small bases.
Equipment used at the smaller bases is expected to be removed at a later date.
IDF officials are saying that the removal of equipment slated to begin in April would not affect the army’s ability to carry out regular security operations in the Strip.
Equipment and military systems used by soldiers daily would only be removed once Gaza settlers are evacuated, the officials said.
