Police ban Temple Mount rally
Right-wing group’s intention to stage mass event at holy site unnerves police; intelligence information indicates rally could lead to riots, police say
JERUSALEM - Police in Jerusalem have decided to ban a right-wing Temple Mount rally scheduled for April 10 in light of intelligence information that indicated the event could lead to riots at the holy site.
The event was organized by right-wing group “Revava,” who called on thousands of Jews to attend the rally.
About a week ago, senior police officials met with Arab representatives to allay their fears over the planned event.
Police to deploy in force
Jerusalem District Police Chief Ilan Franco decided to ban the rally following a special situation assessment Tuesday. The police said intelligence tips showed a “real possibility of riots erupting at the Temple Mount and its vicinity.”
Meetings between police officials and “Revava” leaders also contributed to the police decision.
In any event, the police is set to deploy in force in order to prevent any attempt to violate the ban.
