Abbas continues wave of dismissals
Personnel changes come in wake of deterioration of security situation within Palestinian Authority
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas continued his series of dismissals and appointments within the Palestinian security forces Monday.
Following the appointment Sunday of Nidal Asuli to the post of interim West Bank security chief in place of General Haj Ismail, Abbas sacked West Bank Security Intelligence chief Hany Iad.
He also fired West Bank Military Coordination Commander Muhammad Heibi, and appointed Halil Jamal in his place.
The Ramallah Police chief was also dismissed from his duties, and Abbas announced he plans to terminate the posts of officers who have reached the age of 60.
The recent measures come amid the deterioration of the security situation within the Palestinian Authority, as last week dozens of armed al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terrorists rioted in the streets of Ramallah in response to Abbas’ demand that they vacate his Mukata headquarters.
Abbas said his actions are meant to ensure the safety of Palestinian citizens and that he intends to continue battling the anarchy prevalent in the Palestinian Authority.
