2 Qassam rockets land in Sderot
Southern town of Sderot hit by two rockets, additional qassam lands in Negev; IDF says terror organizations re-grouping
SDEROT - Two Qassam rockets landed in the southern town of Sderot, Police officials said Tuesday.
One rocket landed near the southern entrance of the city and the other landed north of the city. No injuries or damage have been reported at this time.
Earlier, an additional Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed near the Israeli town of Ibim, in the western Negev desert. No injuries were reported.
This marks the second Qassam attack of the week.
On Sunday, Palestinians fired a rocket into an open area several kilometers north of the Gaza Strip.
The nearby city of Sderot responded to the attack by operating it’s early warning system to alert residents to take cover.
Sderot has been the target of dozens of similar attacks in recent years, most recently at the beginning of April.
Renewed Attempts
IDF sources confirmed the additional attempted Qassam attack from the Beit Hanoun area in northern Gaza, but said it remains unclear whether the rocket actually hit Israeli territory or not.
The sources also said the incident points to a renewed strengthening of terror groups in the Strip.
During the Pesach holiday there have been eight attempts to fire Qassams and mortars at Gush Katif and into Israel from Palestinian territory. No injuries or damage have been reported.
Shooting incidents against IDF troops
IDF sources said there has also been an increase in shooting incidents against Israeli troops along the Philadelphi Route on the Israel-Egypt border.
Earlier Tuesday a roadside bomb exploded, and an anti-tank missile was fired at an IDF patrol.
Army officers in the area said the increased terror activity points to an increasing capability on the part of terror organizations to strike IDF targets.
According to the IDF, the increase in terror activity is a “direct result of the lack of action by the Palestinian Authority to prevent terror.”
Since early April several Israeli soldiers have been injured by Palestinian sniper fire in Gaza.
IDF sources said any one of the cases could have ended in tragedy, and could have placed the ceasefire with the Palestinians in jeopardy.
