TEL AVIV - A 16-year-old youngster who moved to Israel from Azerbaijan a year and a half ago was stabbed by a group of youths outside a nightclub early Saturday and later died of his wounds.

Fuad Malikov's relatives are still shocked over the murder and say the youngster was very happy in Israel.

"Although he was in Israel for only a year and a half, he always would tell us he wants to be strong to join the army and fight," one of his aunts told Ynet. "We always laughed because he was the kind of young man that really loves his country and wants to serve it.

Malikov's teacher was particularly fond of him and would call often to ask how he was, the aunt said.

"I'm not just saying it, he was truly a good kid," she said. "He would never yell. He just went out like everyone during the Pesach holiday and then they called from the hospital.

Seven suspects detained

Malikov and his friend went out to a nightclub in Rishon Lezion, just south of Tel Aviv, where they got into a confrontation with a group of youngsters over a girl.

The two friends eventually left the club and sat nearby, when one of the youngsters they clashed with earlier arrived with a group of friends, who stabbed both Malikov and his friend.

Malikov later died of his wounds, while his friend sustained moderate injuries and is recovering in hospital.

The police say they detained seven youngsters over the incident.
