NABLUS - An IDF soldier was lightly wounded Thursday afternoon in Nablus from shrapnel that struck him during a Palestinian shooting attack on troops operating in the area.

The soldier has been evacuated to the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikvah.

Nablus is one of the terror capitals of the West Bank, in which several independent terror cells operate, most of whom identify themselves with the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, the military wing of Fatah.

Thursday morning the IDF arrested six Islamic Jihad terrorists in Hebron.

In a separate incident, a mortar round was fired at an Israeli settlement in southern Gaza. There were no injuries or damage reported.

Abu Udawi, a senior figure in the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, warned in a recent interview with Ynet that his people would "shake Tel Aviv"
if Israel continues with arrest operations in the Tul Karem area.

"For a number of months now Israel has been abusing villagers in the Tul Karem area, a clear violation of what is called a calming down period. We will give Israel a number of days. If Israel does not stop the arrests, 'Shahids' (martyrs) will shake the depth of Israel and Tel Aviv," he said.

Discussing relations with U.S.

Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen has admitted that an anarchic security situation exists in Palestinian areas.

He expressed hope that Palestinian security services would be able to eliminate the instability with intelligence and determination: "Following the chaos which has reigned in the cities of the West Bank, Gaza, and other places - chaos which seriously interrupts the lives and the security of the residents - we ask Allah to allow us to eliminate this situation with intelligence and determination."

Alongside the continuing security incidents, a Fatah committee has convened in Amman, Jordan. According to the UAE based "Al Biyan" newspaper, the committee is contemplating a suggestion to dismantle Fatah's armed wing, the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade.

The committee will also discuss the disengagement plan, as well as relations with the United States and the European Union. Special emphasis is being attached to Palestinian plans for "the day after disengagement," the possibility of coordinating moves with Israel, and the connection to negotiations related to a final status peace settlement.
