Second arrest in attempted lynch case

The youth, who was arrested in his West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba, is refusing to cooperate with police officers

TEL AVIV - A second youth suspected of involvement in the attack on a Palestinian teenager near a Gaza Strip outpost was arrested Tuesday.

Police were acting on information obtained from photographs, showing the suspect attempting to push the Palestinian teenager away from an IDF soldier protecting him.

The youth, who was arrested in his West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba, is refusing to cooperate with police officers.

Police will request an extension of the suspect’s custody time on Wednesday.

The arrest followed intelligence received by police detectives that enabled officers to trace and identify the youth.

Investigators say they have new evidence linking five more Jewish youths with the attack.

The first suspect to be arrested for the attack was 18 year-old Shimshon Sitrin, of the settlement of Nahaliel, has been remanded in custody until July 10.

Police officers interrogating Sitrin said that the youth was also not cooperating with them, but added that “the photos we have speak for themselves.”

But in an interview with Ynet, Sitrin’s father, Shmuel Cohen-Sitrin, said that police claims against his son were libelous.

He also claimed that police violently arrested his son.

“I have 8 children, and Shimshon is the oldest. He always has a smile on his face, and he’s known among his friends as a good person,” said Sitrin.
