TEL AVIV - Hours before the opening ceremony of
the 17th Maccabiah on Monday, 17-year-old American swimmer Daniel Madwed broke another swimming record, this time in the 100-meter butterfly event, coming in with 55.2 seconds.

Madwed's result is an improvement of 0.53 seconds over Nimrod Palma's record from the previous Maccabiah. Palma, who participated in the competition, came in second with 56.58 seconds.
This is the second day of swimming competitions taking place at the Wingate Institute. Four Maccabiah records and one international record were broken on Sunday.
Madwed set the Israeli International record in the 200-meter butterfly event, with 1:58.15 minutes - an improvement of 0.53 seconds over the previous record held by Ukrainian Denis Silantiev, and an improvement of more than 5 seconds on the Maccabiah record.
Israeli swimmer Miki Halika recorded the best time in the 400-meter individual medley qualifiers.
Israeli Anya Gostomelsky advanced to the 200-meter final with the best result in the qualifiers, and American Brian Goldberg did the same in the men's competition. The finals are set to take place on Tuesday.
