TRACK AND FIELD

Israeli high-jumper Nicki Pally is not taking a break. A week after raising his best jump record to 2.23 meters, and a week before the start of the European Athletics Junior Championships, the 18-year-old raised his best jump on Tuesday by two centimeters to 2.23 meters, the third best junior result in the world.

Pally, who received Israeli citizenship just 10 days ago, tried to break the 2.27 meter mark, but stopped after the second attempt.

"I need to leave something for next time," he said.

Yochai Halevi also set a personal best distance in the long jump competition, 7.86 meters.

The fastest Jewish runner for 2005 is 23-year-old Israeli Tal Mor, who ran the 100-meter race in 10.56 seconds, which equals the Israeli result of the year.

Russian runner Masha Anekina, who decided to immigrate to Israel two weeks ago and then changed her mind, is the female 100-meter champion, with a time of 12.04 seconds. Israel's Orly Lettos came in second with 12.34.

Yevgeniy Minenko of Israel came in first in the 110-meter hurdle event at 14.33 seconds, which equals his junior-level record. American Joki Todd came in second with 14.45 seconds.

Israeli runner Irina Lansky set a Maccabiah record in the 100-meter hurdle event with 13.47 seconds, but still did not make the minimum for the World Championships in Helsinki.

Before leaving for the European Under-23 Championship in Germany, Sivan Jean set two Maccabiah records: 50 meters in the discus, and 15.62 meters in the hammer throw.

Shai Shalev won the hammer throw games, with a 16.04 meter throw.

Israel's Itai Magidi won the 1,500-meter competition, completing the race in 3:44.84 minutes, a good result considering the hot and humid conditions.
