Canada goes for gold

Michael Bregman snags gold in triathlon for Canadians, but they get pounded in women's and junior boy's basketball

Michael Bregman of Toronto won a gold medal in the triathlon for men aged 50 to 54, while Joshua Riff of Montreal took silver in the 30 to 34 group Friday at the Maccabiah Games, Canadian Press reported.

 

Canadian Press also reported these results:

 

  • Elise Yanover of Toronto won silver in the 30 to 35 group for women and Shawna Novak of Toronto took bronze in the 20 to 25 category.

 

  • In 10-pin bowling, the trio of Howard Dinetz of Toronto and Montreal's Hirsh Schnayer and Howard Skulnick won silver - their second medal of the Games - with a combined score of 3,352.

  

  • Canada lost 80-47 in junior boy's basketball and 76-60 in the youth boy's division. Vancouver's Sean Ashkenazy led the junior team with 16 points, while Vlad Kovalevsky of Richmond Hill, Ont., had 17 for the youth squad.

 

  • In women's softball, Canada was pounded 15-0 by the U.S.
