'Our vengeance will be devastating'

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades says Israel behind assassination of Ahmed Abu-Zaide, who was shot dead in Gaza late Monday; group says Shin Bet interrogated slain terrorist’s family prior to his death regarding his vehicle, entourage

GAZA - The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Fatah’s military wing, blames Israel for the assassination of one of its senior members in Gaza’s Jabalya refugee camp late Tuesday.

Members of the terror group say the group will respond imminently.

“Regardless of the lull and the withdrawal from Gaza, our response will be painful and devastating,” one member told Ynet. “It will take place well inside Israel.”

Ahmed Abu-Zaide, the terror group’s north Gaza commander, was shot dead by unidentified men. Initially his death was thought to be related to internal struggles among the Palestinian organizations, but now the group claims Israel is behind the killing.

Another member told Ynet the organization holds evidence linking Israel to the assassination, adding that several hours before the shooting Israeli security personnel, apparently Shin Bet operatives, questioned Abu-Zaide’s family members at the Erez roadblock regarding the car he drives, who his escorts are and the type of rifle he owns.

“These questions, a few hours before his death, prove that only Israel is behind the assassination,” he said. “No organization, including Hamas, was interested in Abu-Musaav’s (Abu Zaide) death.”

IDF sources denied any connection to the incident.
