Waiting to leave

Bereaved parents and Netzer Hazani residents Shmuel and Brunia Hilberg, lost their son in Lebanon several years ago, they had to evacuated their home on Thursday after 26 years

I feel now the way I felt when my son was killed, Netzer Hazani resident Brunia Hilberg said Thursday, as she and her husband Shmuel waited for security forces to evacuate them from their home.

The Hilberg's lost their son Yochanan in Lebanon several years ago.

Shmuel burst into tears every time he heard a knock at the door.

Friends arrived to comfort the couple before the forces come to evacuate them.

" We are becoming refugees, running away from our home, from our livelihood and our son's grave is being desecrated for the sake of the country," he said.

Brunia could not help but look out the window every few minutes to see whether the soldiers had arrived yet.

"Eight years ago the state knocked on the door and said they had taken away my son. Six months ago it knocked again and said it would take away my house," she said. "What can I give the country this time when it comes knocking on my door?"

"Soldiers who had become part of our family are now coming and telling us we have to leave our house," she said.

Fifteen minutes later security forces knocked on their door.

The couple invited the soldiers inside to sit with them for a while. However, one female soldier could not control her tears and she chose to wait outside.

The commanding officer gently requested the Hilberg's vacate their home a half-an-hour later.

The couple requested a few moments alone in their house and ten minutes later the couple walked out, locking the door behind them.
