Prime Minister's Office tells residents of largest Gaza settlement they can move as a group to the new southern community of Nitzan. Settlers have yet to agree to plan
Officials at the PM's Office proposed to build another 450 residential units in Nitzan in order to facilitate the plan and accommodate all Neve Dekalim residents. However, the settlers have not yet given their go-ahead to the plan.
The offer to build additional housing in Nitzan was relayed to Neve Dekalim officials Sunday, Ynet has learned. According to the proposal, both the government and the residents will be responsible for planning Nitzan's expansion, including the establishment of all institutions and educational facilitates that existed in the now-evacuated Gaza community.
Most Neve Dekalim residents refused to initiate dialogue with government officials before the day of evacuation. PM's Office officials said that an earlier dialogue would have enabled the transfer of the entire community to temporary housing, en route to the establishment of a permanent community.
Regarding the education system, Neve Dekalim officials were told school facilities could be reestablished in the Shapira center located between the southern towns of Ashkelon and Kiryat Malachi.
This solution would mean the same teachers that taught in Neve Dekalim would continue teaching the children in the new location.
