Former MK commits suicide

Daniel Rosolio puts an end to his life at age 78, after suffering from a difficult illness; fellow kibbutz members say he was a scholar who dedicated his life to public activities

The body of former Knesset member Daniel Rosolio was found Friday at Kibbutz Cabri in the western Galilee.

An initial police investigation revealed that Rosolio committed suicide, after he had been suffering from a difficult illness.

Magen David Adom teams and police were sent to the kibbutz at about 3:00 p.m., where they found his body in his backyard. He was holding the gun he used to kill himself.

Rosolio, 78, was one of the founders of Kibbutz Cabri and taught for many years at the local school.

He entered public life in 1965, and became involved in his kibbutz and the national kibbutz movement.

Rosolio was a member of the Knesset from 1977 to 1984 belonging to the alignment, and continued thereafter in active roles in the Histadrut.

He continued his studies over the years and received his doctorate in 1998.

Labor Party Chairman Shimon Peres and Labor's secretary-general, MK Eitan Cabel expressed their condolences over Rosolio's death.

"The Labor party members bow their heads and join in the family's mourning over their difficult loss," a statement issued by the party said.

Kibbutz members said Rosolio was a scholar who dedicated his life to public activities.

He is survived by his wife, three children and six grandchildren.
