Spanish police arrest alleged Islamic militant

Spanish police have arrested an Algerian in the southeastern city of Alicante, suspected of collaborating with an Algerian Islamic group linked to al-Qaeda, the police said on Friday.

Hichem Kanit, 31, was concealed in a van and trying to leave the country on a ferry from Alicante to Algiers when he was arrested on Thursday night, a spokesman for the paramilitary Civil Guard police said. (Reuters)
